exhaust running hot (someone noticed it glows)

I'm having a problem w/ my exhaust running way too hot, I don't have an EGT yet but when i popped my hood last night the header was glowing orange. I thought at first i was running lean but I had it richened up a little bit and just before it would hit boost it would fall on it's face then come to life, I was told this was b/c i was running rich. So i leaned it out just a touch and it's not falling on it's face anymore. The engine temp is fine, the gauge isn't showing hot or anything it's normal, could this be b/c i have a cheap header (pacestetter)? Please help..thanks

so my exh mani blowin cherries is ok? Smores don't sound too bad.. Thanks for you're help...also my 20g isn't spooling till about 4k, putting a forrester intake mani and a race head w/ hks cams should help it to spool around at least 3500 or better right? thanks for all your help guys.

HKS 264/264 would be the best choice for better spool time.

fill out your vehicle profile. Do you have an aftermarket downpipe/exhaust?

Yeah, it's normal. Mine glows slightly when I've been boosting a lot.

I do plan on getting an EGT soon, though. Probably a self-Christmas present.
