Ok i just got a 1997 eclipse GS-T ... got a good deal so it was supped up a bit exuast... greddy BOV... KnN airfilter...bunch of guages ...ok now my problem is with the BOV when I let off the gas it makes that stupid fluttering noise i wanna know how to change it to the stright out PFTTTTTTTTT because I heard the flutter stresses ur turbo. ok well im gonna give u guys a bunch of links to pictures of my engine i also have an oil leak  and wanna know if anyone can tell where its coming from , also if anyone can see anyother mods in the pics please let me know im a new DSM owner and wanna know if its overboosted or anything like that......... One last thing in the end i want my BOV to be decently loud if its safe and close to stock as possible.... THANK YOU SOOO MUCH IF YOU HAVE READ THIS FAR heres the links...! pic 1 pic 2 pic3 pic4 pic 5 pic6

ok....well on top of the BOV u can adjust the type of sound you want, but u have to remember to, ur not venting, so you arnt going to hear the loudness that it really is, i wouldnt worry about the fludder, mine did that, and i just changed the setting, i dont know who u heard from that it puts stress on the turbo when all a bov does it release pressure from ur IC piping.....ur ok man just check that out

For one thing.. I think your vacuum hoses are backwards. The intake manifold one should be on the top nipple. Most people leave the bottom nipple open.

yeah thats what my freind said to do the only problem is the hose from the intake manf is to small for top nipple  ok prolly can just get new hose 4 that but the real question is what do i do with the hose that goes from wastegate to top of BOV cause imma take it off ....i dont want to just let it hang off... and should i just leave the little T connector thing hooked up to turbo to boostguage i heard if u hook it up to the bottom nipple it makes the BOV respond quicker???

Well, the Greddy nipple is bigger than the stock BOV's. The hose on my car seemed pretty small, but it stretched on there.

As far as the other hose.. where did it come from? Your stock bov should've only had one nipple.

Well, my knowledge only goes as far as the hose connected to the top nipple, but if I were you, i'd switch them for now at least.

the flutter that you hear is the air trying to be forced back into the compressor wheel, that is why it is bad for the turbo.

im not sure i bought this car from someone... it just hooks up to wastegate...

the top nipple should be hooked up like this, bottom one is typically just left open.. here is another picture of the hose used for the upper bov nipple

i hope this helps.

did you leave that bottom nipple open? and where does the nipple from the bottom of the wastegate go, if anywhere...?

I take it u mean the wastegate acuator arm? This would/should be connected to the wastegate solenoid below ur air filter. It can be by passed but u must have a manual boost controller to keep the pressure down. There is a nice little vacum hose diagram in both the haynes manual, and on www.taboospeedshop.com

First of all.... the fluttering sound that you are hearing is "compressor surge" <== that is very bad for your turbo, in that your BOV is not releasing enough presure and the remaining is trying to make the turbo spin backwards! to fix this, you will need to lower down the spring pressure on your BOV and hook up the hoses correctly. In terms of the hoses... the top nipple should be running off the same hose that the stock BOV was hooked up to... the one right off the intake manifold. As for the bottom... some people leave it unplugged, however you should really hook it up to a location directly after the turbo. it helps with response and it creates a "push/pull" affect when combined with the vacuum from the intake manifold, once the throttle body closes.... hope that helps. If you look carefully on a stock 1g BOV there is a tiny hole right in the center of the valve. That hole does the same thing that the bottom nipple on a type S does..... :thumb:

So has anyone had any problem once they connected the lower nipple? Also, does it seem harder to anyone to tune a MBC when it is hooked up on the same line as the BOV?

YAY!!!! thanx sooo much guys i fixed it sound MUCH better but it kinda sucks cause when i was tuning the screw ok the top it popped off its so weird cause it seems like the srew isnt big enough... is there a replacement screw? will it hurt it if its off or just kinda on cause when its off theres a huge vacum coming from it and i just plug it with the screw... but its still to small any ideas?

Fluttering of the BOV is not necessarily compressor surge. Aftermarket BOV's have stiffer springs than OEM so they are harder to open. Lower boost levels will have a hard time opening the BOV. The fluttering sound is more than likely just BOV(as most aftermarket ones tend to do) and is not actually causing your compressor to surge.

How can you tell the difference? And does this flutter hurt the BOV?

no i didnt hook up the bottom nipple what should i hook it up to???? i think i am over boosting cause i half way floored it and it went to 20 psi!!!! and i dont have a boost controller or anything??? the only cord right now not hooked up is the wastegate cord should i hook it up to the bottom nipple???!!!

Wastegate needs to be hooked up, if you are on the stock boost controller, you need to run a line from the WG to the boost control siloind, under where the air filter sits.

92 Talon TSI AWD, after reading this thread I went out to check to see if the one on daves are was setup correctly and im not sure it it is or not. The thing im not sure about is the lines going to the stock wastegate solenoid.

I didnt want to start changing things simply becouse im not sure if its going to break if I do or not. If anyone knows i would appreciate it though!
