well me and my gf were commin back froma two hour drive. i fell asleep but when we got home she said the needle went above normal. Well i drove it to work and i noticed that the needle was at the end of the oil can thing, at normal driving, say 65. It moves a lot quicker now going up and down. i know the gauges are inacurate, but im just nervous now. Do you think driving at say, 90-95 for awhile could have something to do with it? and most important, are these the symtoms (sp?) of a head gasket gone bad??? thanks guys

Im confused. So your oil pressure is high on the gauge or low?

Driving at high speeds shouldnt matter. It matters what sorta throttle youre giving it though.

For example I use an Auto Meter Ultra Lite oil pressure gauge and it reads low at idle (25psi) but once I hit WOT It goes to about 100psi.

well it just seems to flucuate more than it used to, it seems to be closer to the end of the gauge then before. like driving normal, isnt it suppose to be about right at the oil can on the guage, not past it? is there anything i can check to see if somethings out of place or anything at all? i know teh gauge isnt acurate but i cant afford an aftermarket one....

oil pressure is rpm dependant,at 3000 rpm on the oem gauge my needle is just to the right of the oil can.You can check the sending unit it might need replacing if its fluctuating a lot.

IF anyone is worried about driving with low oil pressure, it should be me, unless it really is the guage. But...my oil pressure on my 59,000 original mile motor and has been this way since i got with 29k miles on it, and no beating what so ever and was left stock from the factory, it tends to read very low. At idle if you divide the actual one in the cluster up into quarters 0 25 50 75 100, it sits right above the zero end mark, probably really reading about 15psi or if it is bad like 10-1psi...LOL yes 1psi of oil pressure. At 3,000rpm and above the highest it gets is mid way. All the way out to 6 grand it gets to be about mid way, while im crusing its probably like 35psi, running right around the first normal mark and just barely over it. Its been like this for over a year and the car runs strong.....so Im not worried.

but Im sure your problem isnt worse than mine, if at all, I have a problem.

Dude, just so you know, you can get a mechanical oil pressure guage for like $15 at the local auto zone or napa... it just has a tube that runs from the guage to where your sending unit usually goes... I think I got a 3 guage mechanical set with a bezel that you can mount under your dash for $35... it had water temp, oil press and volts... so go check out the local parts store

you can take off the sending unit and hook up a gauage in place of it to get a exact reading if you are worried about the oil pump,Good luck
