Hi, I'm new ;)

Girlfriends got a 99GST Spyder...just rolled over 40k...

About a week ago exactly she mentioned to me that she wanted her oil changed, I however was busy that day...so she like all women do, tried to do it herself...

Well she attempted it and did all fine except for the easiest part...she forgot to put the oil cap back on, yes, thats the oil cap...

She drove over to my house to show off her accomplishment, when smoke started pouring out....I opened her hood immediately and saw oil shooting everywhere...

Wound up cleaning it all up, added the missing oil again, put the cap back on. The next two days, she had an oil drip....thought it was just the oil working its way down the motor from the spray...after the 2 days, it was gone...

Well 1 week later (today) she's driving and her SES light pops on...she of course freaks out and calls me...

Now, I own a Cobra Mustang and Ford programs there lights to come on at 12,24, and 36 to remind you of service...you just disconnect the battery cable and its gone...

Does Mitusbishi do that to there cars? Since hers just rolled over 40k, its like 40075...if not, what can I check?

Cliff Notes: GF changed oil, left cap off, sprayed everywhere, just rolled 40k, SES light comes on...

Yeah check the oil level to be sure. Do you know how much oil was left when it sprayed out? Good luck, and get that code read and reset for sure.

Oil was down a little bit, kept adding until it read normal...drove it around until it read normal then checked again after a bit a of a break...and it read fine...

I'm gonna reset the battery and see if it pops on again...

All autozone's should be free. Has the oil gone down any in the last week?
Not out here since SoCal shops bitched about losing the charge. I guess you can't blame them.... but you don't have to spend your money with them, either.

What's the SES light? Are you meaning the SRS light, the airbag light?

ummm did you try just starting over ? drain all oil, refill new oil old oil whatevere make sure you put in the right amount , while you are doign that take the positive cable off battery let ECU reset. Make sure everything is tight and work from there

gotta give the girl props for trying!!! :thumb: i love women that arent affraid to work on cars and get greasy.

PS: SES in DSM language is CEL by the way...

Don't you mean the negative cable?>

I have built a dozen of Code readers for friends that cover VPW (GM) PWM (Ford) and ISO 9141 (Euro/Asian). You can get the freeware and parts, or a complete assembly from:
www.obddiagnostics.com. Check it out. The cost of one visit to the shop will pay for one. It is about $85.
