I have a 91 talon & i just installed new head, timing belt etc. I started the motor & there is a high pitch sqeal, sounds like metal to metal. I pulled top t/b cover off & the belt is hot like it is rubbing on something. What could it be besides the tentioner pulley or the other pulley the belt rides on?

I was always under the impression that a timing belt couldnt or doesnt squeek.
Ive had my alternater belt squeel so badly that i pulled the upper cover and was almost certain it was that.
check alt belt tension

Maybe there's too much tension on the balance shaft belt (if you still have your balance shafts). I accidentally did that when I changed my timing belt recently. Squealed like a pig. Boy was that fun redoing everything.

Of course I'd start checking the easiest things to get to first, your accessory belts.

it is not any of the acc. belts. The timing belt is being rubbed on the back side.....not the side w/ the teeth. I will tear everything back apart later tonight to see. Everything was new w/ this install. I think it might be idler pulley.

I've seen the timing belt cover warp to touch the belts on either side. take the belts off and look at the timing cover for wear
