I have a 97 GSX I recently bought (all stock) and it is exibiting 'crankwalk' symptoms.

I'd like to find a shop that:
1. Knows what 'crankwalking' is.
2. Knows how to fix it right.
3. Knows about 7-bolt to 6-bolt swaps (if it comes to that).
4. Isn't going to cost me an arm/leg/and kidney to get work done. (I know this last one might be a longshot  )

I live in Renton and would prefer someplace nearby or on the Eastside.

Any advice and or recommendations would be awesome.
I love the car and would like to keep her alive and get her up to working order again so I can start enhancing her.

You can email me directly with your thoughts if you like ([email protected]).

Thanks,
~ Rob (newbie who feels ripped on his first DSM purchase)

Find someone on here that can help you... You will save yourself a couple body parts.

i would suggest driving the extra distance and taking your car to English racing

Agreed. One call to Luke at English Racing and you'll be happy that you asked this question on the forum. He's extremely fair, knowledgable, and specializes in the 4G63, and is an expert in our tranny's. You can check his website at www.englishracing.net

No question, take the extra time and take it to Lucas. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he won't bullshit you. And he's a damn good DSM/EVO mechanic/tuner.

When you have crankwalk it will seem like you are having clutch issues, and also pay attention when you are making left hand turns for unusual noises. 6 bolt swaps are pretty easy, I have done them before.

Try Pinamotorsports in Kent, it is not that far from you (10 to 15 minutes). Tell Andre that Arnie sent you. He also has a new AWD Dyno Dynamics to tune your car after the swap if you want.

Andre knows his shit, superb welding, and custom made shit, and he's been doing whole cars for years now.......be prepared to PAY him for his work,

If I were you I would consider calling up englishracing.net and talk to lucus to see what kind of pricing and tuning he can do for you, becuase it might be worth it to you in the long run to check him out.

Pina also has a habit of taking FOREVER, big rand hit the nail on the head with everything he said.

Ha! This thread is bad luck... not even 1 week after posting in it, my turbo has blown and now I'm looking for a tow to Vancouver... or, a buddy to follow me down there in the wee hours of the morning so that I don't piss off anybody on the road.

I'm not saying anything bad about pina, and yes andre is very knowledgeable, but depending on what exactly you plan on doing with your car....and how involved you yourself want to be involved in the process, I think anyone willing to spend andre money, would also like the heads up on a second top of the line dsm/evo/mitsu specific shop not that far away as well.

Yet another plug for English racing

Lucas has just put together and tuned paul nelson's 1000hp evo

making that evo the highest horsepower 2.0 evo ever, apparently there is a replacement for displacement, its english racing

English Racing for sure!

PINA is too much a hit or miss from what I have seen and heard that I would stay away from there.

Pina Motorsports set me up with a 500+whp stock block car that gets me 130mph trap speeds in the quarter mile

....nuff said

I wouldn't expect any less with your setup:p

You are asking for DSM shop in the Seattle area not Oregon correct? That's why I suggested Pinamotorsports. It is up to you to decide Downreaver, 15 minutes or 3 hours drive. I have not been to Englishracing myself, they are good from what I've heard.

What about pricing... Who has been to both English Racing and PINA? Is the cost of labor fair? I don't know much about DSM's or any type of engine for that matter, can I trust either of these to NOT rip me off?? I'd like to hear responses regarding both PINA and English Racing.

Thanks.

Lucas isn't bad when it comes to his prices and he's really fair and honest about what your car needs. Lucas will tell you what you need and if you don't have the money, then you need to come up with the money. He doesn't like half-assing things if he can help it. If you want a quality build that will last, he will build it and it will cost you. Or, if you want to go fast for really super cheap, he can show you how to do that as well.

Andre on the other hand tends to over-sell a bit. And he is a bit expensive from what I know and have seen. He isn't a bad mechanic and is seriously one of the best metal workers I've ever seen. His exhausts, o2 housings, intercooler piping, and anything else that deals with metal are absolute pure works of art.

But that isn't to say that Lucas can't make a damn good exhaust also. Just ask Patter$on. Lucas just made him a custom turboback for his 2G that is freakin sick! I still say that Lucas is a better bet for you.

That's good to know... some of the Turbo Tech guys are giving me a bad time because I'm having him replace my blown T25 with EVO III 16g, despite having any real supporting mods. I figured, if Lucas thinks it's okay then I'm good with that.
