Well my alternator is about to go, I'm looking in getting one with more amps because I have a system in the vehicle. Theres a place in campbell which specializes in these things, called Autolectric I believe. I emailed for a quote so they will get back to me.

I also found a place that sells reman. stock ones for $95, delievered to you. It's not the kragen brand parts, its an actual mitsubishi reman. I think thats a good price considering other places are like $160.

Any other places?

Also is it difficult to install/replace on a 2g?

I would go with a LIFETIME WARRANTY BOSCH Alternator. I bought one from autoelectric only for it to die after the 1 year warranty period. The alternator spiked and blew out 18 volts. yay for me, the ecu was toast and all the electronics.

well, i can't say it'll always do spike or not but for a lifetime warranty. its worth the extra 50-60 bucks.

my alternator went out too, its pretty simple to take it out :thumb: i got my alternator from ASC in san leandro for 100 bucks...

kragen alternator, it does the job, ive paid once and replaced it like 4 times already. if your p/s pump leaks on the alternator, free new alternator, if you forget to put on your exhaust heat shield and fry the alternator, free new alternator, if.... bla bla bla....
no matter what happens, they test it, it fails, you get a shiny new (rebuilt) one.

As for the higher amp model... i have no idea, but kragen gives free refills on alternators!

THe R/R of the alternator is as easy as pie on my 1g. (i have no ac fan) so its about 1 hr total. 10 minutes to pull the alternator, 30 minutes to take it to kragen and have them test it, and give me a new one, then 15-20 minutes to get it back in (no bent radiator fins), belt on, lined up, plugged in, not screeching, and on your way.

10 minutes to take out your alternator on a 1g? It takes me 5 minutes or less.

I have one AutoZone alternator with lifetime warranty on it on BOTH of my 1gB awd's...

I've gone through 15 alternators from AutoZone within 2 years, on both cars.

One time I got 6 bad alternators in a row.

The lifetime warantee is worth it, especially if you plan on having the car for a while.

Hey guys, I ended up getting my alternator at autolectrics over right off 17, off san thomas/camden, despite reading the negative review above. Read it after I got it.

Anyways, the place looks reputable, they have stations where workers and buildling/repairing alternators, and they look like they have a very big stock. Here is their site: http://autolectrics.com/ you get 5% off if you mention it when you go buy it. Pretty cool guys.

As for the alternator, it looks koo, works fine (so far) we'll see how it holds up in the long run. It was a pretty straight forward replacing it. Took me about 30mins for my first time. And supposedly the 1g is easier, go figure.

As far as the 1g higher amp alternators go, you can get an OE "upgrade" (worth +15 amps) if you go with an alternator out of a 1G AWD AUTO car... Same alternator case, same connections, more amperage! -Same price :D

that is such a dsm'er thing to do. Well if I get the ATX alternator, I'll get 15 more amps. WEEEEEEE

WTF? -I don't know weather to say thanks for the complement or go piss off and keep your weenie MT's 75 amp alt.. My point was that they are readily available and cost the same. IMO, can't beat that even IF it is ONLY a 15 amp increase.

i believe the galant vr4 alternator is rated at 120.

Interesting.. I wonder how many parts stores actually keep these on the shelf though. How many Galant VR4s did they make again?

well if I get a new alternator I will be getting the atx version, so thanks for the info, but Im just wonder, how much can it help, really...

not much, but it will help... Thus the reason why the 1g ATX's need a higher output alt as they generally have a combination of a higher drain and more load on the motor.

Recently I had my engine replaced. I think I had given the ok to re-use the readiator hoses...not sure, I was in Cancun at the time they called..anyway, a few days after getting my car back I smelled coolant. when I got home I had a nice jet of coolant spraying over the belts and into the alternator.

It died a horrible screeching death on the way to the shop. Turns out alternators don't like Coolant! The shop quoted me $200 for a brand new bosch...well, I really didn't have that much after spending money for the replacement engine and clutch...So I called up M & S Recycling in Sacramento. Got one off a 99 RS for $39 + Core with 6 mo warranty. The shop replaced it and the belt for free.

Yeah, but that place is also has ridiculous prices. I called about getting a 97-99 bumper and they gave me a price of $350!! and it was off a car that was either burned or wrecked which means the bumpers aren't in mint shape condition. Now it makes sense why they have soooo many eclipses available, nobody buys any parts off them because they charge like if they were a dealership and in some cases a real performance shop (When they have aftermarket parts) they actually sell stuff at retail prices :notgood:
