Hey guys,

I'm an old-school muscle car gear-head who now owns a turbo dsm because I wanted to see what this import thing was all about. :thumb:

I have a NOS (that is the brand, I correctly call it a "nitrous system", rather than "NAWSS") plate system on my '67 GTO that I want to convert to use on my dsm... simply for "fun" on the street and maybe once or twice at the strip. I want to run a wet system with 1 fogger nozzle. I understand I will need to purchase two new lines to go from the solonoids to the fogger nozzle and also purchase the nozzle itself. I have a few questions:

1. when installing the fogger nozzle in the UICP, how exactly is the fogger nozzle attached to the hole in the pipe? Is a rubber grommet of some kind used, or does a bung need to be welded in for it to screw into?

2. How far from the throttle body should the fogger nozzle be placed on a turbo? I've read 6"... just want to be sure this is correct.

3. When spraying on a bone stock 2g turbo engine, what is a safe spray level for a stock engine? 35hp? 50hp? Also, what jets (nitrous & fuel) are required to achieve this HP level?

4. With a small shot such as the one being discussed in this thread, is it necessary to upgrade the fuel pump? if so, would a 190 pump require a regulator?

5. Are any nozzles in particular better than others for this application? Or are they all pretty much the same?

I have the following mods on my '97 GS-T:

UICP (hard-pipe not sure of the brand)
apex BOV
Tanabe 3" cat-back (soon to be a 3" turbo-back when I get my Hi-flow cat)
K&N filter

Hi, No has helped you out, so i'll try and help. I only know the answer to #3. The stock 2G engine can handle 350-400 hp. with your set up, at the stock boost level, your arouns 200-220 atw. So go from there i suppose. Sorry I couldn't be mroe help.

Wow, finally a reply!!! That's freakin amazingly cool that someone decided to reply to this topic. Hey man, I'm in Seattle until the 30th, maybe we could plan a meet/cruise with some other DSMers? (while the weather is still good) Shoot me a PM if ya want. :thumb:

...A bunch of people have told me that I should upgrade the turbo before installing nitrous because the stock t25 turbo cannot handle the increased exhaust flow produced by a nitrous system... this sounds like BS to me... I don't see why the t25 couldn't handle a 50 shot, but whattaIknow? but anyone heard anything about this or care to defend or refute such a statement?

The answer is yes. You can choose to do either, or you can do it even simpler and tap the pipe and screw the nozzle directly into the pipe, however I would insert it into the throttle body elbow as I will discuss below.

2. How far from the throttle body should the fogger nozzle be placed on a turbo? I've read 6"... just want to be sure this is correct.

On a wet kit, I typically plumb the nozzle around 3-4" from the throttle body right where the throttle body elbow becomes straight. Granted the system will be under pressure because the vehicle has forced induction, but fuel is heavier than nitrous, period. You want to be able to get as even of a mixture as possible into the intake manifold, even though there is little risk of puddling.

3. When spraying on a bone stock 2g turbo engine, what is a safe spray level for a stock engine? 35hp? 50hp? Also, what jets (nitrous & fuel) are required to achieve this HP level?

I would say you'd be fine with a 50, even a 75 shot, however timing will become an issue. The biggest problem with a nitrous application on a 2G is going to be getting the timing down. Fortunately, it's set low from the factory so you shouldn't have to worry, but I would definately check it before spraying the car since the computer controls the timing. As far as jets are concerned, it depends on your fuel pressure. If I remember correctly it's like a 38 fuel, 42 nitrous for a 50 shot, but do not quote me. Call up NOS's tech support, tell them what fuel pressure you are running, and they can give you a guide from there.

4. With a small shot such as the one being discussed in this thread, is it necessary to upgrade the fuel pump? if so, would a 190 pump require a regulator?

I would definately upgrade the pump even though the nitrous on a wet kit will supply it's own fuel. You just don't want to see pressure drop when the spray comes online. You don't NEED a FPR but it wouldn't hurt. Also, start off by tuning the fuel side of the kit to richen or lean the mixture as needed. Don't immediately jump down to a smaller nitrous jet.

5. Are any nozzles in particular better than others for this application? Or are they all pretty much the same?

For that small of a kit, I would say it's very negligable, and you should save the money on the exotic stuff for later on it you decide to get serious with the car.

UICP (hard-pipe not sure of the brand)
apex BOV

You have a good start (especially when you get the downpipe.) The rumors you have heard about spraying on the T25 are correct. The turbo isn't going to live long because it's too small and generates too much heat and will literally 'cook' itself. The good news is who cares? When it does, replace it for real cheap (around $100 for a used one on the trader) or upgrade.

Good luck.
