I recently bought a 98 eclipse gst. the guy i bought it from didnt know much about it. He knows that it has anaftermarket turbo on it, but he doesnt know the size or kind and neither do I. the problem is that the turbo isnt working right and I dont know why. It works some of the time. the guy that i bought it from said that it worked right before he had the transmission worked on, but after that it hasnt been right. it still runs fine minus the turbo. there are no leaks to my knowledge. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Are you getting any vacuum or boost at all on your gauge?

This CANNOT be said unless you have done aBoost Leak Test (BLT). Search for a BLT how to. Really simple 5$ tool that can be made from supplies at Home Depot or the likes.

Another thing to do, check for turbo shaft play. Take the intake off. Takes 5 minutes and this would give you acces to the turbine. Check wiggle the the shaft with your hands and check for excess play/movement. Real easy way to give yourself an idea if the turbo is fine or not.

Other simple tasks could be insuring you have a clean air filter. Check your PCV if it's clogged. Check plugs/buy new ones, correct gap size. Do an oil change no matter what, ensure good oil weight and use a good oil filter. This small things elminate the "I think/im wondering if.." and can take a lot of stress of your shoulders knowing it was;

A) Done by you
B) Properly done
C) Things are as should be.

Leave no mystery when working on our cars. They need the attention and do it right the first time!
