Hey guys,

I've been looking at making a paddle shift setup for my dsm, but I have a few questions. I know the shift box let's you electronically control your shifts, while the boost controller lets you raise the line pressure, but is there really a need for both? I mean, wouldn't running the gears basically in their "manual" settings increase line pressure anyways? Maybe I'm wrong, but basically I want to know if I would feel the difference between having the shift box or the shift box and boost controller. If anyone has some insight, I would love to hear it. Thanks guys.

Chris

A boost controller does exactly that, it controls the boost. It doesn't have anything to do with line pressure. If I remember right, the TCU controls how much pressure to give the transmission based on throttle position and rpm.

This is the shift box you want.. RoadSurge.com But that's the same one that IPT sells..It used to be 150$..

Now that line pressure box is interesting..I didn't even know there was something like this out there..But for 175 I think I can deal with taking off in second gear..

I might have to get that, cause going into first while your moving is not a good idea....

Also for the paddle shifter horn button mod, you need a 2g steering wheel.

Interesting, I didn't know I could use a 2g steering wheel but I looked it up and it has two horn buttons so it would work perfectly. Was going to get a cheap aftermarket one with the "nitrous" buttons haha, but I'm sure I can find a 2g wheel for cheap if not for free. Do you have a link to the "paddle shifter horn button mod" with a 2g steering wheel? Would like to look into it deeper. Also why would you take off in second? A bit confused. Thanks for your feed back man.

Theres another neat option for 1g owners. Foreign muscle has a tcu flash. It gives you push button line pressure, using the "power" setting for 100% line pressure and the eco for normal driving(or whatever you want to flash it as).

They have a bunch of other options you can flash on there as well.

This sounds interesting, not all that much either, cheaper than the IPT controller. Will they be able to add overdrive to the power button? If I'm correct with the power mode selected it basically turns off overdrive while raising the shift point of the other gears correct? I may be wrong. Thanks for the info though, never knew someone out there did this mod.

Hmm, i dont recall the not having od in "power" mode. But i dont run third out on the streets either.

Yea was given that site after i made a few attempts to have a push button/toggle line pressure switch. The foreign muscle flash just seemed like a really slick way of doing it. Plus with all of the other options they have they can basically tune your trans for your set up.

I have to take off in second because going into first if your moving is really hard on the tranny..I actually chriped the tires once going into first cause I didn't know it would do that..So now if I go somewhere I just take off in second unless I'm completely stopped..

91stocker, thanks for that tidbit of info man, I'll look more into it.

Bud92gsx, That makes sense, but from this I'm assuming you have a paddle shift setup? Oh and thanks for the pm.
