4G63 Timing mark (crank)

Hey guys i was wondering if somebody can point out where the crankshaft timing mark is ..I see the indention on the crankshaft position plate but i don't see where its suppose to line up to?? if possible please post a picture and im working on a 98/99 4g63 motor

Yeah ive seen that picture around but for some reason on the engine itself I can't find it but i will post a picture and maybe you can point it out

It is like a little metal tab at 2:00 and it matches up right to the little v mark in the plate. Idk if that made sense.

Yes, that is the bolt/marking I'm referring to. The dowel in the crank sprocket will be at 3 o'clock, which would make the notch in the trigger plate line up with that marking.

No idea why that image is used in the 2g article, as that's a 6 bolt alignment mark. See the image and thread below.

Yeah i know right? ..everyone around has 1g's and look at me like an idiot cause i'm like well there is no mark at 2'o clock lie theirs ....ill line it up and take another picture and see if you think its correct

The picture you posted above looks like it's almost in time, just needs to be rotated once (maybe twice) to get the oil pump sprocket to line up as well.

Ok sorry. For a 7 bolt it is going to be to the left and above the crank. Like 10 or 11 O'clock. Totally missed the 98/99 motor part. Any ways the picture that snow boarder posted is correct. See the top most left bolt has that little tab (timing mark) coming off of it matches up with notch on the sprocket plate. Make sure the cams up top are on there marks as well as the oil pump. Make sure they all line up on top dead centre of cylinder one.

I've always assumed the VFAQ was correct, and have never timed a 7 bolt myself.

Thats a good reference. Is there a "real" manual like this (for everything) that is made for our cars?

grab the sm but the marks should be there just line them up
