Well I finally figured out what the metal grinding noise was. I first thought it was my TOB, so I took the tranny out to look. The bearing looked good. So I took my clutch out and when I took a look at the clutch disc, the springs were rattling around and looked grinded down. Also one part of the pressure plate was worn(the outer edge). Inside the tranny housing there are a couple of grooves. I know that none of this stuff could be good for my car or my pockets. Any Ideas.

The TOB is fine. The metal is from the springs on the clutch disc and from where I would guess the pressure plate was hitting the housing at one point in time. I did go back out to check my flywheel it looks good.

Does anybody have a clue as what could cause this? I was told that my pilot bushing might be bad. I already have a new clutch to go in it, I just dont want to install it and it get eaten up like the others.

That damage had to come from your pressure plate. Were all the bolts in it when you removed it? Bad pilot bearing could "possibly" have allowed the clutch to move up and down and "might" have caused the wear on the springs.

Were the transmission bolts loose when you pulled the tranny?

My guess would be bad pressure plate though.

All the bolts were there for the pressure plate and all the bolts for the tranny were fine. Would the bad pressure plate be a good diagnosis since this is the second time in a row that a clutch has done this?

Your bell housing is marked up pretty good. Is there any markings on your pressure plate. There should be something to show what was doing the grinding. I've never seen marks like that.

I replace the pressure plate with the clutch. Throw up some pictures of your old one.

There was one spot on the outer edge of my pressure plate that was worn down. I tried to take some pics of it, but they didnt come out too good(all blurry). Like stated before does anyone know what would cause this to happen to the clutch disc and the pressure plate?

EDIT: I just went and checked VFAQ and was unsuccessful at finding a reason as to why this has happened. The clutch was about 1 1/2 months old when it crapped out on me. The clutch that I had replaced before was in my car for about a year and the springs in the cutch disc went out and showed some wear(grindage). If anyone know what could cause this problem please post. I need to get my car back on the road.

EDIT 2:Okay so this is either an all too common problem with no kind of right up or you guys are tired of seeing clutch problem questions. Which is understandable. I am not tryin to be an ass I just want to know if there is anything more wrong with my car before I put in the new clutch I have. I dont want to ruin this one as well.

Most people are probably like me. I have never encountered the problem you are having and I still can't figure out what could have been grinding on your bellhousing.

Possibly you have the wrong clutch and pressure plate in there???? I really don't know. The only thing I could think of was that possibly a piece broke off the pressure plate and got caught.

Hopefully a wiseman will have an idea of what is wrong.

"NOTE: Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) has revised some of their clutches for the DSM. They feature the larger damper springs in the sprung hub assembly and a revised pressure plate/ spring plate. The larger springs are an excellent improvement but there are some things you need to know about. It is possible for the spring plate fingers to make contact with the damper springs if the clutch is being overextended. The solution is to pay special attention while adjusting the clutch so that you get ample clutch release but not so much that the spring plate makes contact with the damper springs."

My clutch adjustment might have been off, but it felt fine to me. I dont have a ACT clutch it was just and OEM replacement from AutoZone. Which might have been my problem from the get go. I guess I will just install my new clutch and hope that this doesnt happen again.

You will be fine just replacing the clutch, plate and tob.In my 12 years wrenching i have seen quite a few clutches fail like that.Seem them loose all the springs on the disc, dont sweat just reinstall.,

Well the dowl pins are there trust me. I had to stuggle a bit gettin my pressure plate off. Thanks for your help guys Im just goin to put in my new clutch and hope that it doesnt happen again.
