I currently have a huge hole in my flex piping in my 90 n/t Talon. It sounds like a freakin bus through first and second. I was hoping to eventually get a exhaust that would sound good and maybe increase performance.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what and where I should get it? I was thinking about just picking up a exhaust from another 1g n/t and just putting on a good muffler.

I was also curious as to what size the stock piping is on 1g n/ts.

Okay new question, instead of getting a whole new exhaust I was wondering if it would be okay to replace the flex piping (mesh part of exhaust) that is right under my engine with a straight regular exhaust pipe. It seems like it would make things a lot simpler, however I don't know if I absolutely have to replace it with a new flex part.

Yes, make sure that you keep a flex pipe there because of engine movement. If you remove it and place a piece of hard tubing there you will hear loud noises coming from the pipes since there is no play. Not sure where you live but try to go to a local junk yard. They usually have those pieces there and sell for cheap. I would say no more than 30 bucks. Also, local muffler shops have universal ones in stock and should not be to expensive. Take it easy.

A Nice Muffler On A Stock Exhaust Makes A N/t Sound Nice. Well, I Run A Header, No Cat, Stock Piping With A Muffler, and My N/t Sounds Deep, Not Rice. And Yes A Flex Pipe. Good Luck

There is another recent thread that is active, started by Badabing, dealing with this. The title is about a header, but you are talking about the same thing. It's the whole system from the exhaust ports to the cat flange, and It's about $100 shipped. I just replaced my front pipe recently with a new factory part. My flex was bad. It was a replacement section welded in at a local shop about 4 or 5 years ago. The new mitsubishi part was over $200. Shortly after that my manifold heat shield had to come off, and it revealed a spider-web of cracks all over the iron casting. A new stock ex. manifold is over $200. I wish I knew about the ebay headers before I laid down $200 on the exhaust pipe. Just get one of the ebay headers.

If you are wanting to replace your whole system, you dont have many choices for aftermarket. The only aftermarket company that makes an exhaust system for the !G is Pacesetter. I havent really heard anything good or bad about them. I just think that it is a bit pricey. Well since my muffler got cut off my car recently I'm goin to have get another universal for it. Good luck with your ride.

If Pacesetter made toilet paper, I literally wouldn't wipe my ass with it. I don't even think their exhaust piping is aluminized, which means if you use it in any state other than Arizona it will probably rust out.

Why couldn't you use a catback system for a 1G Turbo FWD? I wouldn't say to run out and buy 3", but there are plenty of companies offering affordable 2.5" 1G Turbo FWD exhaust systems.

It's possible the flange at the cat would be too big or not at the proper angle, but you're going to be modifying hangers and other things regardless of what system you buy. Be creative!
