I am currently in the process of diagnosing my no start. My ECU had a shorted cap so I got a 91+ replacement, and switched pins 6 and 14.
The car has fuel and spark so I am leaning on something having to do with the throttle body. About 1 out of every ten times I would try to start the car, it would start idle high, and just die, or if I hit the gas it would also die instantly. I don't think it would be a fuel cut-off because I just replaced the filter and used seafoam with fresh gas.
I have a haynes but it is very confusing. I should have bought DSMs for dummies but whatever. It says to check resistance with the throttle closed (which I am assuming means that I don't touch the throttle) I am supposed to connect the the probes of my ohmmeter to terminals 2 and 3 on the actual TPS thats on the throttle body. It is supposed to read 3-4k
So I went and disconnected the TPS which was at my firewall, and tested prongs 2 and 4 going to the TPS. [2ground and 4 pos and switched] I did not get 3-6.5k, I got a bunch of jumping random numbers that did not exceed 350. Does this mean my TPS is bad or did I test it wrong.
I also checked the volts of each of the 4 things that go the opposite way of the TPS, I read 123and4 are supposed to be around 5 volts with the key on, I got 17v for 1, 7v for 2, and 0v for 3 and 4.
What the hell?
I know my idle switch at the top of the throttle body is good (the whole point of putting wire 6 into 14 of the ecu) and when I unplugged it the car turned over very differently.
