Problem:

Check coolant light is on. The coolant overflow has just been cleaned. Re-filled up to the hot line, still on. Not the problem.

The temperature does not exceed 215, so no overheating. Not the problem.

However, once the car comes to a stop there is a hissing sound and white smoke pours out of the engine bay. The hissing continues when the car is turned off, and it continues to produce white smoke as well. After around 5-10 minutes, the hissing stops and so does the smoke. I can't see any leaks onto the ground or in the engine bay.

Please help diagnose. Thank you.

Instead of just filling the overflow bottle, did you try to manualy fill the engine. Like Defiant said.

I don't think he understands what exactly "fill the block" is. When the car cools down open the radiator cap start up the car and fill it with coolant through the thermostat housing. I believe you have air in the cooling system. I had the same problem once before except in a matter of 5 sec. my car would overheat. Try it. GL

Okay.

I will drain the coolant out this weekend, flush it a few times to get any junk out, fill it up and let it sit.

Come back, start it up and try to fill it up more as the car is running.

Sound correct?

Also, would this problem cause the aforementioned smoke?
