I've been dealing with a similar issue for a long time. I have no logger. Everyone says "what's you're logger saying?" or "check your coil.". Everything that I could check (or break accidentally while checking) with a VOM or vacuum guage or timing light has checked out OK. You have to do a boost leak test/vacuum leak test, check the timing, check the temp sensor and TPS, EGR components. Something is off enough to make it run bad in open loop, but not so off that the ECU can't compensate for it in closed loop.
My car; everything has checked out OK or is new OEM, and still no good.
I purchased and installed a B&M fuel pressure guage. It says that my fuel pressure is 10psi too high across the board. To me, that's worth looking into! It does occasionally have the stink of richness when it's cold. That was Friday night. Junkyard isn't open on the weekend. I'm gonna try a different FPR fom the junkyard. With the guage sitting there on the filter I can swap-out old FPR's in the parking lot of my local "autoparts recycler" untill I get one that gives the right pressures. If that does the trick, I'll try to let you know. Got my B&M set for $30, seems like it's not a half-bad investment. You'll never have to wonder about your fuel pump, pressure or regulator again.
