I know that almost all DSM have a small leak from the return line to the oil pan. :beatentodeath: but it is geting old looking at puddles of oil when u look under ## car. So here is the deal, I put a new Gasket and I used RTV but, it still leaks. I am pretty sure that one of the bolts is striped out. Do i have to drop my oil pan to re-thread the hole or is their some angelic adhesave i can use? Thanks

Cut some washers out of cork or gasket material and use them on the bolts.

What is that going to do? What you need to do is first get a helicoil kit to fix the bolt hole from being stripped. And then you need to clean up arould the hole and then tighten it down. It should be tight and you should be set. I know this because this is what I am currently in the process of doing. Hope that helps.

Actually, take a 1/4-20 tape, dip it in bearing grease, then tap the two holes out. Then use RTV and put it back on with new 1/4 bolts, and use brass or copper crush washers. This works awsome i had the same problem, just remeber to clean the tap out after each hole. The wheel bearing grease will hold the shavings. :thumb:

I don't think they had crush washers on the stock pan bolts. When i tapped mine out, I put them on for alittle added safety, and the fact that the bolt was just a hair to long.

Yes, the stock pan bolts should have had 6mm crush washers. 1/4" crush washers will work also.

If in a bind, 1/4" bolts with the 20 thread pitch and 1/4" crush washers will usually work even without retapping the holes. It's not the optimal solution but does usually work.

Yes, there are crush washers on those bolts. They don't show up very well in the service manuals but they are shown in CAPS and required to keep the return from leaking.

There is no RTV on my oil return, just the factory paper gasket and the crush washers and no leaks.
