Calgary,
Hi, I've got a drivetrain vibration @ 90 to 130 KM/H. At first I thought it was my wheel balance or a bent wheel. I got my wheels balanced and it was still vibrating throughout the car, I can feel it in the seats, console and steering wheel. I then swapped the rims and tires with my fully balanced winter set and it's still the same.

Any idea where to start? I'll put the car up on the hoist tomorrow and run it without wheels to see if it makes a difference. Anyone with the same experience? Thanks

BTW Car is a 1G AWD 1990---Vibration is speed related, not RPM related.

I get a ton of shake in the steering wheel on the highway accelerating in 5th from anywhere around 80 to 120, same as you. I know my stock rubber engine mounts are pretty shot, I suspect that this has something to do with it, but could be wrong.

I have the same issue right now. I'm almost positive it's because of bad CV joints as everything else has been replaced and the last time i had the right front suspension apart the axle fell into 2 pieces. I've read on here that it is especially common when the car is lowered and you have worn out CV's. As soon as i get some loot together i will be replacing mine and then i will know for sure. IS your car lowered at all? Mine didn't even start until i dropped it and i know the CV's have been bad for a long time now, i've just been broke lately from spending my money on trying to get a new business up off the ground.

I can seem to pin point it to anything in particular. I was doing it when the car was 100% stock. Then it was still doing it after I replaced both front axles, filled the steady bearing bushing with silicone, lowered the car with Eibach Sportline and KYB AGX and raised it back up on stock springs.

I wonder If the vibration is coming from the hub or the engine mounts.

Nope, I had the same problem and I had a bad Rotor. I put my car on the lift at work and you could see the rotor making the car viberate.

Go Flames Go!!!

i had the same one my 1 awd. it was a pretty violent vibration an it ended up being u-joint in my drive shaft.

I agree your Checklist should look like this:
1. engine mounts
2. rotors
3. bushing
4. saxles -cv joints

Well, I'm gonna put it up on the hoist tomorrow and run it without the wheels on to see if it helps. My rotors are pretty shittty so I'm gonna take those off too.

Go Flames GO! (Thanks PIMking)

Small development for those following my endeavors. I ran the car at highway speeds on the hoist with no wheels and the vibration was still there. I could see the right front CV axle shake and wobble a bit. I ordered a new one and I will be installing it tomorrow. Hopefully it takes care of the problem.

which half shaft? I just had that endevor on the drivers front one were the bolts that hold it to the block broke off into the block. hope thats not it and if it is hope that it didnt break the bolts off into the block.

Do you mean the bolts holding the intermediate shaft? I installed a new front passenger side cv axle and it's much better but it still vibrates. I'll check the u-joints on the driveshaft tomorrow.

Turns out the vibration was coming from bad u joints in the driveshaft. Replaced the 3 of them and it drives like a new car now.
