The black rubber pads that sit loosely on both sides of the tranny and driver's side mounts. I've always wondered what they're for? Mine are dried out and cracked to hell. Any downside to getting rid of them?

If you have blown stock motor mounts like I did, it keeps the motor mount from smacking into the receiver mount on the car. Get poly, you won't need it. In fact, with poly, there is no room for them.
