well i have a big problem.... the 420a has a tick or knock at about 1/4 throttle up past 3k rpms.. floor it and noise goes away. let of gas noise goes away.. little bit of metal in oil. stethascope shows to be a problem in cylinder 3. im pricing rebuild for that but looks like its going to cost a little more to build than buy a 4g63 for that.... so out of a 91 to 94 with 4g63 fwd... what is involved into putting that into my 95 with the 420a? I will have the engine trans and ecu.. but what else will it take.... or do you know whats wrong with my car.... BIG LOSS IN POWER>>> GOT BEAT BY A STOCK 4 DOOR GOLF!!

i'm not sure what your engine problem could be,and i'm not familiar with 420a's anyway. i do know this, its one heluva job to put a 4g63 in your car, more than its worth, you'd be alot better off to replace the 420a and turbo it if you're looking for a turbo motor.

well i think that the only main differences are cv axles, shift linkage, and bottom sub frame. import tuner says that its the most common motor swap..

fuggin hard swap and rarely attempted. Dont try it. Selll the car running, then buy a turbo car. Im not surprised a golf beat a 2g n/t neways

You are correct about the difficulty involved, but don't be hatin on the 2g n/t....:thumb:

Found this on another site, some points have ben covered but:

1. you will need to check compatibility for your transmission.
2. you will need to fabricate motor mounts
3. engine bay clearance
4. engine electronics ... you will have to get new ecu and wire everything for this new engine and/or transmission
5. if the tranny changes maybe you might have to change axels
6. weeks to months of downtime

If your current financial status allows for you to finance a car (ie you are not upside down with the current one) then by all means trade in the current one towards the purchase of a turboed car.

On the other hand you could rebuild the 420a and have a very reliable car for years to come and still retain the choice of turboing it down the road.

None of that is really nessecary. You just need a junkyard GST....then you unbolt every single bolt in the engine bay. then you bolt everysingle bolt that wa sin the gst in the same spot on the non turrbo....but were are talking alot of work, and alot of money and you need a complete Turbo 2g to do it.

Don't ever come into the 'Extreme Tuners Forum' and mention 'Import Tuner' as your source of information. What the fock are you thinking? That magazine is the biggest waste of time. It is not 'the most common motor swap'. If it was, don't you think you would have found a hell of a lot more info on it than you have?
