if im hooking swapping in a jdm engine and changing all the connectors and sensors and everything. i was wondering since the JDM UCU that came with the JDM engine hooks right up to my car do i just use it or do i need a USDM ECU. i also have the white cylinder thing and all the right stuff for the cyclone intake to work properly. do i use the jdm usc that came with the engine???
 
You don't have to, you could use the usdm ecu and just either get dsm link to run the cyclone or there are other ways to run the cyclone. keep in mind that the cyclone is opperated by rpm not boost levels.
 
I have a JDM engine with cyclone and all and JDM ecu, works perfect.

Maybe a stupid question, but why would you NOT want to use the JDM ecu?
Or were you just asking what's best ?

And indeed, cyclone works by rpm (4100) not boost.
 
I personally would prefer to have dsm link if your going to go through the trouble of removing the ecu. Also the only thing the jdm ecu is doing differen't is controlling the cyclone, and i am doing that with an rpm switch. so i personally see no reason to go through that hassle if it is not absoultly needed. Not to mention you need to have the solenoid that controlls the butterflys if your going to use the jdm ecu unless the harness is identical you may run into some connection issues. As of now im am just using the fprs
 
Since you're in a 1G, and the motor is a 6bolt, it might be better off to use the JDM ECU. Just remember, you shouldn't use anything but the stock JDM injectors and turbo, because the stock fuel maps in that ECU are made for those specific injectors and turbo.

However, if you're planning to go big on the turbo (and you *have* to go bigger on the fuel, because you'll be moving more air) you'll need some sort of device to compensate for that. That's where something like an S-AFC comes in. In short, it helps the factory ECU compensate for the added air by telling it to use your (upgraded!) fuel system to dump more fuel in. DSMLink is another story- it's a modded OEM ECU that's pretty darn configurable. It do everything the S-AFC can do, and more (and much better, see their site on differences - most notably, complete 3-D fuel air/maps rather than just compensating for the air with more fuel). Not only that, it can control the Cyclone, too. :)

In short - staying stock and have the acutator for the Cyclone? JDM ECU.
Going bigger on the turbo and fuel? JDM ECU+S-AFC or DSMLink.

I prefer DSMLink. Once you make the investment, you'll be set.

If you have DSMLink then you should have access to the forums where you can find all sorts of good stuff to read.
