What's this hole in the Turbo?

I'm talking to this guy about buying is Evo 16G and i noticed this hole in the picture...
Does anyone know what it is because i don't want to buy it if there's an issue with the turbo.

that is not egt...it is in the cold side of the turbo. I would say it is likely for a boost port for an mbc. Lots of guys tap the compressor housing for that.

No biggy. Ask him if it is threaded for pipe thread. You just thread a nippin in there and you have a boost source to run your boost controller from.


for those of you playing the home game......nippin is supposed to say NIPPLE. little tying error there

yeah i asked him about it and he said that it's a threaded tap for some probe in there.

If i bought this turbo what would i have to do to use it?
I have a MBC but it hasn't been hooked up since i got the car and i'm not exactly sure that it works...
Also i'm not 100% sure on how to hook up the MBC to be honest...
 
I have the turbo swap kit already. I just don't want to get this one if that hole is going to be an issue... (boost leak, boost creep, or something i don't know about yet, etc.)
 
intake temp maybe...just for someones curiousity's sake. IONO....id say just put a nipple in there and use it for your boost source.

Plumbing in an MBC is reallllly easy. Line from boost source to mbc....out from mbc to wastegate. Set boost level....DONE. easy as 1-2-3 :D

That's correct. I would wrap the threads with teflon tape to minimize the chance of a boost leak. Perform a boost leak test afterwards to make sure that air is not leaking from there.

Having the pressure source (for mbc) on the compressor housing is actually good because it minimizes the chance of boost spike.
 
Smoking80 is right on the money here.

It was probably tapped for a MBC, it appears a previous owner may have went with an aftermarket J pipe, that didn't have a nipple on it like stock 1g does? If the previous owner owned a 2g that would explain it.

IAT - was my second guess, but why would you want to read the air temp before the intercooler ROFL.

Well I guess if you were trying to gauge intercooler effiecncy this would be ideal, and another one on the UICP , but I doubt thats what was going on, unless he was doing a intercooler shootout.
 
What about running a Spring and Ball MBC with this turbo?
How would i route it back to the wasteegate and the intake pipe?

I know the bleeder MBC uses a t-fitting with a resistor..does the ball and srping use the same method or is it not necessary?

Read or reread the line above labeled " Best way to install a MBC " .

There is no need for a T-fitting , and you are not running it to the intake/BOV line.
 
I believe ball and spring would be the same way as your BCS. One side of the nipple goes to the wastegate spring and compressor housing and the other goes to the little nipple on the intake pipe. Or is that the bleeder style? I get mixed up between them.
 
I think i figured it out :D

I have a line from my intake pipe that run's down to this little thing on a bracket (i don't know what to call it..)
On the little thing there's a line coming off going to my waste gate. It's using that as the signal feed to the wastegate correct?

What's somewhat odd is that the ol' T25 doesn't leak without teflon at the boost source on its own compressor housing. I don't even think the thread pitch is that close to the actual thread.
