Pan leak

Ok I changed my tranny fluid over the weekend and now it's leaking. Before it was leaking as well but not as much. When I went to check it, it's dripping a lot more now. I'm not sure what to do. I followed the Hayne's manual and torque it down to spec.

I put black RTV on both sides of the gasket. I may have skimped out on a bit of the RTV since I didn't want it getting everywhere. The pan has been damaged already by what, I do not know, but there is a nice scrape on the low end which is where it's leaking. By damage, I mean the edges of the pan were crushed to the bolts so that I had to take a screwdriver and push the pan edge off of them to access the bolts.

Is it better that I should pull it again, and try to reseal them with a tad bit more of gasket or should I look for a new pan? Or should I just wipe down the leak and apply some RTV on the seal without pulling the pan? Or maybe just tighten the bolts down slightly bit more? I'm not sure what kind of gasket it is. It's a Purolater one. My guess is it's neoprene but it may just be regular rubber so I don't know if it'll damage the gasket if I do just tighten it a bit more.
 
Our oil pans suck. The flange is way too thin and it warps very easily. Thus the reason for many un-explained oil leaks. I Wish that someone wold fabricate an oil pan with thicker a thicker flange. If its just slightly warped then no about of RTV is going to help you. Why? because I have the same problem. I even went to the shop and ask them what the deal was. I was sick of this oil leak and well, it turns out it is the oil pan that is slightly warped. They used that strong orange nissan RTV thing and I still have oil that seeps out. Just a bit though. I going to request that someone fabricates a better oil pan.

First: you don't have to use gasket. There is no Mitsu part # for oil pan gasket. All the gaskets are Fel-pro or whatever, but not OEM.
Second: try to straighten the pan as much as you can.
Third: instead of any type RTV silicone I would hardly recommend for you to use the RIGHT STUFF. Yes this is the name of it. It is like silicone, but never dries and hardens. You can put it on, torque the bolts and ready to go. I've had a great success with it. There are some other brands, but this is by far the best. You must put a little thicker bead, but be carefull not to go inside. Good luck. :thumb:
 
Is that for the engine oil pan or the auto trans pan? I think mine might be warped from the scrape but I'm not sure. The back of the pan is fine, it's just the front leaking where the damage is. I wonder if torquing the front bolts down would seal better.
 
Being an AT as well, I've encountered the same problem... I made sure that the pan's flange was straight but it would still leak...

What eventually "fixed" it for me was MAKING SURE that the gasket's mating surfaces were clean & free of residual ATF... I used MANY rags & brake cleaner. Then rather then using RTV, I opted for some Copper spray... No more leaks!
