Hi is there any way just to buy the cable that hooks the laptop to the car and download the dsm link software? cause i need to get one but it seems the prices just keep going up  last i checked it was like 550 on ebay and thats steap just for a cable and software

if not what is a good cheaper place to buy one ?

Classifieds sometimes have it for cheaper. You cannot make the cable.

Buy it used. You should be able to save about a couple hundred bucks, depending on the seller.

Yes a skilled software guru could steal from DSMlink. But if you lack the necessary skills it would be easier to knock off a gas station and use cash to buy the software.:notgood:

It's not just a cable and software LOL. It comes with the chip too. I guess if your skilled enough you could get a chip and copy the data onto it. Just buy it and get it over with.

Dont do that.. thats rude.. They put months and months of work into DSMlink, and, in my opinion, is the best tuning option available for DSMer's.. Give them the credit they deserve, and buy the awesome product that they have bestowed upon us.. (used or new)

You're not getting "just a cable and some software", when you buy legit, you are getting years of work and time put in by some dedicated people. Your probably getting access to one of the most useful/knowledgeable dsm based forums on the web. May not seem valuable to some, but I, for one, think it's an invaluable resource. Please don't try to make a knockoff copy of dsmlink, as that's probably one of the reasons it "just keeps going up", and really just screws the people over who actually pay for their fine product.

You gotta pay to play sir.

theft is never right, but its still way overpriced.

try years! These guys put years of their lives into creating a tuning platform that would be more affordable than most other options out there and people want to rip them off and steal their hard work? Come on guys.....

but its still way overpriced.

Compared to what?

Given the significant portion of two people's lives that went into the product and the limited market it's clearly not overpriced and not when you consider the cost against something like a set of cams or a turbo or the cost of the 60k service.

theft is never right, but its still way overpriced.

If you don't like it then run a chip from Jeff O. and an SAFC. Or pony up another 1000 dollars and run an AEM EMS. Is that overpriced as well?

i understand the r and d that goes into these kind of things but it should be released in capabilities or "stages" such as like nitrous control, anti-lag, and have a plain jane version with your basic tuning capabilities and launch control? just a thought, then they can put all the bells and whistles on it and raise the price and keep the basic fairly low.

The real R&D goes into the baseline to make it possible. So you'd be looking at perhaps $500 for the "Plain Jane". What your really looking for other people who want/need the additional features to subsidize your cost.

With what's going on with V3, where all versions will have a daughterboard, the baseline costs will be even more than today's 1G version.
