DSM Link cable am I screwed?

Thats not good. Wait for v3? I don't know what options you have man. Sorry.

Edit: Just to clarify, was just the cable lost or was the black adapter with it, i assume both. However, if you still have the black adapter part, you can get 9pin cable and be on your way.

My Dsm link cable was lost last time I let my friend use it and I need a new one. DSM link wont sell me another one and I cant tune. What can I do noone sells them

Damn, that sucks..if they won't sell you a replacement cable, i know of one system i will stay the hell away from in the future!!!!!! Customer support is key to me. IF, you have your password and what-not to get on their forums you should be able to get a cable. If you have the "real dsmlink" and can't get a cable for it then i will not help promote their sytems anymore simply because cables are not only lost but they go bad.

If you're not a "real dsmlink" owner (mening you have the immitaion/fake verision) then, well, you need to build an immitation/fake cable LOL

Hopefully some one who is a representative of the DSMlink, either mfg/wholesaler can chime in and clear this up. But this is the first i've heard of them NOT taking care of a customer, so i'm kinda iffy on this one.

Their customer service is still top notch Glenn, they used to sell cable's separately and they would ask you some questions to verify your an authentic user. However, the scammer's figured out what they were asking and how to get around it. Thus the reasoning for no new cables, they will gladly repair yours if it doesn't work, but won't sell you a new one. I think it's understandable, somewhat inconvenient in situations like this, but i guess it just makes you try to take care of it that much more.

2G Cables - replacement/purchase

Believe it or not, your 2G DSMLink cable/adapter is the key to your DSMLink package. Do yourself a huge favor by treating it as such. Don't lose it and don't leave it lying around in your car while you're away. If you damage your adapter, we'll gladly repair, often free of charge; but the damaged adapter (at least the internals) must be returned to us first.

Because people are copying our chips, selling them, and then telling the buyers to contact us to get a replacement cable/adapter, we've had to suspend sales of the adapter entirely. This makes it very awkward for someone that has their car broken into or simply loses their cable. We can't distinguish one situation from the other on our end. We tried for awhile, but then people got wise to what we were asking for in terms of "proof" and just started faking that.

So we're left with no choice but to simply stop replacing cables. I suspect this is why other shops selling similar products had to do the same thing. You can thank anyone that you find selling copies of our stuff for the hassle.

I see no reason they should replace cables for people with all the people tryin to scam them.

Now, since you lost the cable and youre obviously a true owner, looks like your buddy owes you some money for another DSMlink.
Theres no way around this, either you buy DSMlink again or find that cable.

EDIT - and Ill back it up that the guys at DSMlink have outstanding customer service. They actually reply to emails within 24 hours unlike some people that just say they do.

LOL yea I was pretty pissed. The DSMLINK team is pretty cool and customer service is good they just wont replace it. Really sucks :( ... lemme know if you guys find a way of getting one or worst case I can make my friend buy me all the parts to make a cable. Anyone know how....

Your SOL because of Scammers. Yet another reason why theives suck. They screw over everyone and legitimate buyers such as yourself suffer as a result.

DSMLink is really the cable. That is waht you are really purchasing. They practically give you the EEPROM and the software is free to anyone... its the cable you are purchasing. The cable allows them to communicate with the EEPROM over their own COM methods with the ECU.

I agree that is B.S, i thought those guys would more helpful? I thought the program was what mattered the most not the cable! So you loose your cable you loose the whole program WTF

It's messed up, but there's not much you can do about it. The cable is everything in a 2g so if you loose that you're out of luck. I don't blame them for not trying to replace it either.
Its like someone with an AEM/Haltech/Motec/etc saying "I've lost it, give me another one" LOL.

I have DsmLink in my GVR4 and I never leave the cable inside the car or let anyone borrow it unless they do it right then and there in front of me.

I guess your friend owes you a DsmLink setup.

TIt makes sense that the cable would be the difficult part. The data on the eprom can be copied with a $2 eprom and a $35 eprom reader/writer, and the software is freeware, just seems like something that easy to loose or break shouldn't be the only proprietary piece.

Only the client side is "freeware", not all the software.
Again, if you somehow break your cable they will fix or replace it for you. It's only the case that they won't replace a lost or stolen OBD II adapter.
