Should i use the same rule of thumb when replacing a DSM Timing belt? use OEM? I need a new water/oil pump. Having the bottom end of my engine rebuilt in couple weeks and was wondering if i should use OEM or what not. What kind of money can i plan on spending on them?

Thanks

Useing OEM is usually a good rule of thumb for anything, however buying after market saves you money. Certain things are fine to go aftermarket on obviously, like switches, sensors, plug wires, etc. however when it comes to things like water pumps, timing belt, balance shaft belt, tensioner, those are things I usually wont go aftermarket. There is a reason they were used in the car, because theyre quality.

I just had the topend rebuilt 3 months ago and i did the timing/ballance belt then. I am just concerned about the oil and water pump.

Do i have to go to the dealership for them?

I would, but it's personal preference for them I suppose. At Advance, the new water pumps we sell have a lifetime warranty on them, so you will be taken care of, and they are good quality, but I like OE parts more.
