Alright, both my 93 GSX front calipers locked up. Im leaving tomorrow to go back to college so I dont have time to order/rebuild my calipers. I read this article http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/275201-1g-brakes.html So I know the 1ga fwd laser front calipers have a 2/8" smaller bore and thus, less braking power. My question is, Is it safe to temporarily use the smaller calipers to get me home? Also, I noticed that the lasers caliper guide bolts(sliders) are slightly smaller so the caliper is a little loose, however this does not look like it could hinder clamping power or anything.

its also a smaller rotor to but, just take the whole caliper (bracket and all with its own pads cause they are different to) and bolt it up to the car with the rotor from the fwd. all of the early awd used the smaller caliper that are on the fwd's. from 90-91 the awd used the smaller single piston caliper (which is the same as the fwd caliper that your talking about) and 92 and up they used the bigger 2 piston caliper. and for fwd's they used the same single piston caliper through all the years. ive got a 90 awd in my driveway right now with the single piston calipers that came on the car. its perfectly fine and safe, just don't forget to bleed the brakes after you put them on....

and if you need some pads for the single piston calipers ive got a brand new never been used set of hawk hps pads pm me if your intrested.

Not unless you are planning on changing rotors, brackets, and calipers. You can't just throw the single piston caliper on.

Kind of waited until the last min to fix your brakes. You can pick up rebuilt calipers and brackets from places like Advance Auto. Swapping them onto the car shouldn't take you more than an hour or two including bleeding the lines after.

ok. I have a late 92 eclipse. It had a 7bolt engine/4bolt rear but i guess the dual piston calipers didnt come untill 1993. But my single piston caliper is still larger than the laser caliper.

well its either that some of the 92s came with them and some didn't or they started the 2 pistons in 93

The dual piston calipers started getting used in the middle of 92. That doesnt mean everything was switched when it says it was supposed to be but that is what makes having a 92 fun. LOL
Before the dual piston calipers there were two versions of the single piston calipers and like you stated they have diferent size pistons. They are interchangeable if you replace them in pairs, but you said you needed to replace both anyways so you dont have to worry about having diferent calipers paired to gether. They both use the same rotors and pads so that wont make a diference either. Hell you can take the calipers off of a non turbo 1g and use them. There is no way that using the smaller piston calipers will be unsafe. :thumb:

Ok, thanks alot guys. Im going to use them for now, until i upgrade to 2 piston calipers.
