hello,
i am getting ready to drop my motor in my 96, its a fully built six bolt. I have a FFOFH and since i dont use the water cooler anymore will i need a different thermostat housing? i heard that i need to use a 90 housing since that was the year that didn't come with a water cooler? i searched but can never find what i want.

I`m in the process of a 6 bolt swap also,& am also going with the forward facing oil filter setup. You definately need a 1g water pipe & t-stat housing. My problem was that the 1g water pipe I got for the conversion was from a 1g nt, so it didn`t have provisions for the turbo cooing lines, but the t-stat housing had 1 extra small diameter tube on it. So I drilled a 7/16 hole in the water pipe, & brazed in one of the turbo cooling tubes from the original 2g pipe to have the 2nd. hookup for the turbo cooler line. If you wind up with an extra small nipple that`s un-used, you can do what I did to keep your turbo cooled, or block it off. :talon:

Well i have a 1g water pipe and thermostat housing off a 92 turbo. THat isn't the problem i am wandering if i need the 90 housing instead because aren't they different because the 90 didn't come iwth the water cooler? i am pretty sure they are?

I am using the 91 TSI one

I also take it that your using a water cooler too right? Unless if you disconnected it. You have a 91 that means you should be be using a water cooler unless you converted to a FFOFH or a air cooler? if you did that then you would need a different housing am i right?

YEah i'm digging up a old thread LOL. I still need to know what housing i need? Do i need a 1990 turbo 6 bolt housing or a N/T 6 bolt housing? I need to know soon so i know which one to get. I am putting the motor in a 2g so i dont need the housing that has the holes for the water cooler.

I would use the 90 housing and don't bump your threads.

Oh sorry i wasn't meaning it that way. Next time i will just start a new one i guess. Anyways, where can i get a 90 housing? i was looking on jnztuning and they have that where you can order oem parts. They have the 90 housing but i am unsure if its the whole housing? ALso do you think it will hurt not running any kind of cooling system for the oil? I was just going with the FFOFH.
