Building my Exhaust. What Muffler?

What muffler should i get. I want a low smooth sound at low RPMs but a REALLY mean sound when i step on it. I was thinking maybe Tanabe but then maybe not. Help a brotha out.

Magnaflow would be good. Dynomax and apexi are also good choices. Its all on you though. Most are going to sound relatively the same.

I was lookin at an APEXi slant tip or a Greddy. I dont really want Magnaflow. Everyone and their mom has magnaflow round Grand Forks.

Haha, Apexi has nice stuff its just pricey. Likewise for greddy. The apexi will be louder though.

i personally have an apexi n-1 i love it at low rpms it isnt too loud and when its time to make it sing. IT sounds good

I have a Greddy Evolution II. I personally like the sound and the looks better than any other exhaust (but then again it's my car so I could be a bit biased). It's very nice and low and smooth when it's at lower rpms but starts to scream at above 3k rpms. It hangs a bit lower than the other exhausts but I haven't had any issues with it. After a couple years of NJ pothole ridden roads, the lowest part of the pipe has some small dents in it but no big deal (and this car was slammed with Sportline springs for a period of time). The only drawback is that it's a bit expensive. Some people might have issue with drone at highway cruising, but those people are sissies.

dont buy a turbo muffler for your non-turbo. you and everyone in grand forks, (including me in my dorm room) will be going deaf. If your looking at the N1 and other mufflers make sure that it is for a non turbo engine. just my 2 cents

they all are gona sound the same very rice and annoying at WOT. I know this sounds a little out of place but buy a flowmaster muffler. I had one on one of my N/A and it sounded smooth as hell.

Anyone with a turbo car ever put a flowmaster on theirs? I loved them on 5.0's way back when i had one, and always wondered what one would sound like if i put it where the cat should be and let it still go through the thermal muffler.

Anyone got a clip audio or video of one idling or running with a flowmaster?

If the flow's sound anywhere near as good on a 4cyl as they do on 8's I'd recommend them for sure.

I never tried on my turbo one but I had one on my 1990 eclipse NA and it was nice and mellow, but as soon as you WOT then it saounded just like a turbo car, it didn't have that annoying high pitch like the hondas have. I didn't even have a resonator.

What series flowmaster. anything special or just a universal.

If you go to youtube, and search for "dsm magnaflow", or "eclipse flowmaster" or "talon exhaust" you will get some hits, you just have to vary the searches, so you can find either a talon, or an eclipse, or general dsm.. etc... You will often find what you are looking for if you try enough searches..

Just don't put a header on your 1g n/t because you'll have fun making it sound half decent...just from what I have experienced..big_d
