Hey guys, I have a 92 tsi with 184,000 miles its running great actually, the only thing is its starting to smoke quite a bit at WOT thats it. At idle it doesnt smoke at all, i know its that time for a rebuild and im sure compression has gone down quite a bit too.

But trust me it still pulls hard no problem and runs really good. Im gettin ready to do my rebuild because its easier to do it before it blows up.

I definately want to make more power, its stock right now pushin 12psi, i wanted to go with the eagle rod and je piston combo on ebay for 700 bucks i didnt think that was bad at all, but im not going for big numbers, the most i wanna push is 20 to 25 daily driver, so i was thinkin bout just gettin oem pistons and keep the rods if good. Of course changin everything that comes with the rebuild bearings, rings, t belt, etc.. what do u guys think? thanx

Well what are your goals for the car?? Chances are a stock rebuild would be just fine, unless your gonna have more then 400 hp....

Yes i have been fixing all the little things wrong with my car, and started upgrading some stuff too, tubular mani, turbonetics bc, stage3 clutch and lightweight flywheel, and boost gauge

Basically, what it comes down to is having a good machine shop as well. Don't worry about the head, 1g heads have gone 400+ hp no problem. If you want to get cams, thats fine just nothing OVERLY aggressive buy nothing but OEM timing components as well. www.jnztuning.com is a great site for finding these parts, even at a discount. I prefer 1g rods and 2g piston combo, cause it helps compression for 1g guys, and if you have a good machine shop to machine the rods for cheap its well worth it. Just an idea, best of luck to ya!

Well I ran 11's with 20psi on a stock engine with 172,xxx
Its actually the car in the picture below my name.
Altho a rebuild is a good idea, you might not need it yet.
It could just be your turbo smoking.Usually black smoke at wot is bad turbo seals.
Do a compression test, leakdown and boost leak test.

Yes i forgot to mention that too could it could just be my turbo, big 16 g good idea instead?

I would not use the original rods for a rebuild (machined or not) . Or should I say , Iwould not the next time . I did once , it cost me . Others have had no problems . I did , if you upgrade , then upgrade all of it .
