I'm getting a stage 2 transmission from TRE. I'm going to be having around 400hp. Car will only go to the track a couple times. The rest of the time I'll be driving spiritedly around town. I'm looking for a transmission where i can just drop the clutch and not have to worry about anything breaking. And being able to shit good into the gears. Looking to spend no more then 1500-1600$ but i would love to spend less. Please list the upgrades in order of the best first. Thanks

These are the parts that are already replaced in the transmission:
The parts replaced:

-New high friction 1-5th synchros
-New 1st-2nd hub & sleeve
-New 3rd/4th hub & sleeve
-New 1-st-2nd shift fork
-New 3rd/4th shift fork
-New double synchro 2nd gearset
-New Input shaft bearings
-New Intermediate shaft bearings
-New needle bearings under 1st -5th gears
-New oil seals
-New synchro keys
-New synchro key springs
-New front & center differential shims
-Neodymium trash magnet, oil filter and magnetic drain plug.
-New snap rings, heavy duty double roll pins, end nuts, bearing shims and all the other non-reusables
-Polished hub & sleeve assemblies
-Center differential Torrington bearing upgrade
-Gears & shafts stress relieved, deburred and modified for durability and improved shift quality.
-Glass beading of transmission case. Your transmission will look like new.

Total Price: $1,200

-1st/2nd steel shift rail upgrade = $50.
-3rd/4th steel shift rail upgrade = $50.
-Welding of center differential option = $50.
-Double synchro 1st gear option = $75.
-Double synchro 3rd gear option = $75.
-Double synchro 5th gear option = $75.
-Trimmed viscous coupling upgrade = $125.
-Shiny bolt kit upgrade= $25.
-OEM ratio 3rd - 4th gearset upgrade = $125.

-Speed Design 4 spider center differential w/ thrust bearing option = $400.
-Shotpeening of gearset option= $400.

Get the 4 spyder center diff. I blew up two stock ones at around 300 whp. Get the upgraded 3-4 gearset with double syncros. Also toss in steel shifter forks.

Toss in a single syncro gvr4 first gearset too. Unless you like to make rediculus downshifts to first gear then go double.

The gvr4 first helps alot with 60' times.

-OEM ratio double synchro 3rd - 4th option upgrade = $200.
-EVO-III double synchro close ratio 3rd - 4th gearset upgrade = $275.

--- One of these 2 depending on what you can afford. I'd go with the EVO III double synchro.

-EVO-III 11% taller 1st gear & input shaft upgrade = $300.
--- If you have an extra $300 to spend. I'd go with the EVO III 1st instead of the GVR4 1st. (do some searches, you'll find out why).

He has a GST, he won't need a 4 spyder center diff. ;)

Forgot to add, since you are FWD see if you can get a Quaife limited slip front differential (LSD). It is available on the Stage III and will cost you $1100 more.

Here is the link to the Stage II FWD rebuild. The specs you posted are for a Stage II AWD rebuild.

Not going to happen. DSM Trannys are weak. Dumping a clutch on even a stage III can kill a tranny.

:shhh: LOL

You're in luck - you are FWD. With 400whp, you'll be breaking the tires loose every other minute, instead of keeping that drivetrain shock contained within the driveline. You probably won't have to worry about gernading your gearbox, but that is at the expense of traction.

I put down 400 WHP as a GST and it sucked, but I will answer your question anyway. A basic rebuild will be completely fine. Jon will also find a few other worn parts in there that will need to be replaced, so that will be tacked onto the bill. If your first gear is toast (like most high mileage 1st gears are), then ask Jon about the 11% taller 1st. Chances are that you wont want it in a FWD, but I'm no gear ratio expert. Also, as Dee mentioned, pick up a Quaife if it's in your budget. It will make a world of difference on a FWD. And that all you should need.

I got the same tranny with the same power you are wanting to put down. Here are the upgrades I went with. I got shotpeening ( wich i highly recommend), steel shift forks, heavy duty intermediate shaft and 16% taller 5th gear (wich i also highly recommend). I already had the kaaz lsd so Jon just built around it. You see my numbers in my profile and the transmission shifts like butter. If you have anymore questions you can pm me. I am loving 400whp. The car is absolutly amazing and fun.

Rule of thumb on transmission rebuilds. 1st and 2nd gear should be built like the great wall of china. Especially 2nd gear. That includes double syncro, possible cyro, shift rail, etc. Remember 2nd gear is the weak point on our cars.

Drums, contact Tim Zimmer on here. Thats a picture from his transmission rebuilding site. Great person to deal with, and he may be able to get and sell the parts to you.
