A while back my belt started squealing during cold start ups. I tightened the belt using the tensioner, correctly so I thought and the squealing went away. I've noticed however that my alternator shakes around a bit now while the car is idling and I really can't remember if it always did this or if it's something new? possibly due to how I tightened the belt. dunno. I'm guessing it never did and I somehow didn't tighten it down right but wanted to make sure before I start driving myself nuts trying to fix it LOL

It should'nt shake. Maybe the shaking is your alt. belt pulley bearings are binding from being over tightened. Or the bolt that hold the alt. to the block was never tight, or backed out.

I had a belt squeal issue at start up as well.
Popped the hood to tighten the alternator, and noticed it shaking during idle.
Turns out, the nut on the long screw that holds my alternator to the front case fell off, and the square headed screw backed out quite a bit til it hit my splash shield and chewed my alternator belt.... :notgood: .
So, I bought a 8mm x 1.25 copper exhaust locking nut, and i've had no problems of it coming loose at all.
So, i thought I had it licked right... wrong.
Started my car the next morning, still squealing, but not as bad, just a chirp here and there especially when I pulled out and drove.
Turned out my crank pulley decided to separate on me :notgood: .

Check your crank pulley while you are at.
If you remove all of your belts, you should be able to pull the outer ring from the inner hub.
Pull it of and check the backside of it where you can clearly see the rubber insulater, it will be a pretty obvious crack.
