I was wondering if I should pour some money into my 91 TSI FWD or should I sell it and buy a 2g AWD. I love my 1g, but I think it would be better to have a AWD. My friend told me that the 1g motors were better, but I thought they were the same. A little advice would help alot.

What exactly do you want out of the car? Like a daily driver with some mods or a show car? As far as looks wise 2G's have much more parts out there...As far as reliability in the performance area you have a much better chance with the pre May of 92 cars...They had alot stronger motor than the post 92 cars (7 bolt)...I'll let you do the research over the 6 bolt Vs. 7 bolt ....But in the end you will more than likely be better off keeping your motor if nothing else and swap'n it into a 2G IF you are looking for a newer/stylish/performance car...Below is a link that refers to 20 pages of info that will help you decide on your own what will fit you the best...

My suggestion is sit down and figure out what your goals are...

Set your budget

*************************Do your research***************************** <The best thing IMO anyone can do...

Do it right the first time so you don't get aggervated at something that is bound to happen...

Ex: Stock tranny with 150,XXX miles and trying to push 400 hp out of it...Not that is can't or hasn't been done...But if you are looking for a more stable setup try and fix your weaker links first....

BTW, I am a proud owner of a 1G AWD that I wouldn't trade anything for...

AWD is sick compared to FWD. As far as getting 1G vs 2G, well 1G is more solid, but the 2G looks nicer IMO but it's really up to you. I love my 2G AWD and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a built 7-bolt coming with crankwalk mod so it doesn't walk on me and the bottom and top end are built to hold 450 AWHP with no problems. So what I'm trying to say is if you decide to build a fast car you can do it with either 1G or 2G. What it comes down to is if you like the style of a 2G better or not. AWD is definitely better so if you wanna upgrade to AWD consider a 2G. If I were you (and I'm not), I'd sell the 1G (motor and all) and get a 2G AWD. Then if you wanna do work to it you have TONS of options. Once I put in my motor and other upgrades I'll be well into the 400AWHP range. Best of luck with your decision, Tom.
