I need to take off my lower timing cover to check my timing but can someone tell me how to do this. I read the vfaq for changing the tbelt, but do i need to take off all the pulleys that is says just to get the lower timing cover off or can i just take off the crank pulley and motor mount? Any info will help before i try to do this. Thanks.

Yes you are right about taking off the crank pulley. If I remember correctly there isnt enough room to get around the water pump pulley so you will most likely have to take that off as well.

Tip: Crack the water pump pulley bolts loose (but do not remove) with the accessory belt still in place. The tension of the belt will aide in keeping the pulley from rotating.

the water pump pully and the crank pully arethe ones that you need to take off.. if i remember, the water pump pully was fun trying to get off, cause it was spinning when i tried to break the bolts :/ it was interesting... my crank pully was tough to break off as well, then finangling the cover off was fun as well :)
