If timing is off, effect sound of exhaust?

depending on how much, yes it can. I've used adjustable cams on other cars and was able to make a car "lope" by adjusting the cams. Not that it helps performance, however it was funny. It would be best to be 0/0 unless you can hop the car on a dyno and dial them in.

This is probably a dumb question. But I was wondering if the sound or tone of an exhaust would be different if timing was off? Cam timing that is, either at idle or reving. Anyone know?

Have you ever heard a V8 with cams? BLUB BLUB BLUB BLUB....that's because the valve timing is off slightly due to the cams.
