When I bought my 1992 Laser RS it needed a front pass side cv. After I replaced it I found that there was still a CV clunk, clunk, clunk in second gear only. I am also noticing a knock from the transmission/clutch housing. Has anyone else had this problem? I think I will need a rebuild, is it possible to have my transmission rebuilt but have a 6th gear added?

Sixth gear, not possible, unless you have a custom gear set, and shifter made, which is beyond the realm of reason.

As for the clunk, does the have ABS? If so on the front rotors are there 2 smaller 10 or 12 mm head bolts there attaching the ABS disk inside the hub? That can cause a clunking sound similar to a broken CV joint if they are not attached.

The car does not have ABS. Is it possible that the clutch could be what is making the clunk sound? The clutch grabs right of the floor and the kid that sold me the car told me it was going to need a clutch. I read that you should only use act clutches in our cars and that you need to verify the thickness of the flywheel against the specs of the clutch. Could this be my problem? The kid also told me that the car had some sort of racing clutch in it.
