I've searched and couldn't find anything. when I bought my DSM the previous owner had put a Blitz BOV on it, I found a good deal on MAFT and all the parts so i decided to put it all in. I got the car to run enough to drive, now I just need it to run better than it was when I started.

My question, Full Throttle's site says I need to get the short and long term fuel trim to as close to 0 correction as possible, this mean I need to keep the trim numbers as low as I can by leaning it out a little at a time while watching my timing advance? Or are their stock fuel trim numbers other than 0 I need to be working towards?

Mods list is up to date, I do not have a SAFC yet, hopefully in the next few weeks. And yes I do have a datalogger.

Set the MAFT to the standard settings for your injectors. With a warm engine, drive around for a while, preferably at a steady 35 to 45 mph. Don't try to watch your logger and make decisions.

Upload the log file to your computer. If possible, convert the log file to an excel file or something you can work with. I like to add a column that averages the short term and long term trims and put it in a graph. You can try sorting in different ways but I think "Calculated Load Value" works about the best. Your trims are constantly moving, especially the STFT. Ideally they should be close to zero. Looking at the average of the STFT and LTFT helps you get a better look at the big picture. If your overall average is more than 3 or 4 from zero, change the base trim knob on the MAFT to adjust. If your average of the fuel trims is negative, you are rich so turn the base trim knob clockwise (and vice versa).

If you made an adjustment, do another log and re-evaluate. Once you get the base, or overall average right, take a look at your idle and mid throttle bands and adjust these with the same goal of keeping the fuel trim average near zero. Once you have those adjusted you'll be ready to set the WOT.

PS: search for the terms STFT and LTFT and you'll find some pretty good threads.
