Hey guys, I'm not to sure if this is where this thread should go.

I have a friend who is in Wooster Ohio and his 1g is at the shop. He blew his nt and bought an imported Japanese 1gT. He also bought a 1gT wiring harness and Computer. The shop he has his car at told him that the harness was not compatible with the JDM motor because sensors were different. So I told him he needs to find a new shop. I think that this shop doesn't want to undertake such a hard project.

Can anyone recommend a shop that is capable in northeastern ohio?

Thanks!

so basically he wants to convert a fwd n/t 1g to a fwd 4g63t equipt dsm? eh i would hate to under take that project myself. cant say that i blame the shop but if they dont kno dsms i wouldnt want them 'tryin' it either way. good luck on the search

Yeah thats the plan, and thats the problem

Well, Buschur is up there. But i hope you mean he bought a jdm 4g63t motor, not a "japanese 1gt".

It's a weighty project, and honestly if it's a 1g, there's no reason to swap everything out. He would have been better honestly to build the motor thats in it, and throw on a turbo. (Obviously not exactly that easy, but. . . )

1g motors are all 4g63's, so i don't see the need for the "jdm".

yeah my thoughts exactly static. being a 1g he could probably have sold the nt or turn it over to salvage w/e to claim on his taxes and than bought a turbo dsm. . . for the pains and time and money spent in/on the wiring and swap of nt to turbo

Yeah, I bought a 4g63t from Japan, the shop told him the "JDM" wouldn't work in his car.

This is why I need a shop.

Anyhow, we could spend all day saying what he should of done. But the problem is, he all ready bought a 4g63t and needs to put it in. No one knows a place to do this eh?

Anyway he can sell the motor LOL?

How much did he pay for it?

I kinda doubt Buschur will take on a project like this.

The labor would be pretty expensive anyways.

For the price of the motor + labor you could probably find a turbo 1g.

I would be interested to know what sensors are incompatable.

Why doesn't the shop just swap over the sensors from the "US" motor to the "JDM"?

Is the reason he is taking it to a shop is because your buddy doesn't have the tools to do so? ...Curious why he just doesnt do it himself.

Jreese is right, sell the motor and just turbo what you have. You'll be better off. OR, sell the motor, AND the NA car and pick up a turbo awd car.

Any way he does it will be expensive, unless he undertakes the swap himself. But it sounds like thats a no, so i opt for buying an already turbo car.

I would assume buschur would do it, however it would probably be fairly expensive. The benefit of going with Buschur would be that they would probably be able to complete the swap very quickly, which would result in fewer hours of labor.

I don't know if there are different sensors between the evo3 and 1g 4g63t, but I'm guessing they would be minor things that would be easily replaced.

I think he needs to take some time and figure out exactly what he wants to do, and then figure out the easiest way to do it.

He paid 1400 for the motor, crated from Japan. His NA 1g is blown so I don't see him being able to sell it for more than a couple hundred. His current NA also has 130k on it.

And there isn't a snowball's chance in hell he would do this swap himself. You should see his attempt at putting speakers in, ugh.

Everyone has said that the money he is gonna spend should just go to a new car, but the problem is, he all ready spent it.

buschur is going to do just a clutch for me, im sure they might take on a project. Theres also a shop called slick motorsports which does alot of custom work.

Yeah last I heard buschurs had like a 4 weeks waiting period because of being so busy. And if I am not mistaken I think the labor is somewhere around 80$/hr or something along those lines. Probably have to sell a kidney on the black market to be able to afford it. Just my .02 though.

if he were too list list every thing back on ebay he would be able to get enough back to get a turboed car I just sold my 95 tsi awd for 2000 ond ebay and turned around and bought another 90 tsi my 95 had no engine tell him to list it he doesnt have to sell it there are reserves

Any other shops I should consider for dropping a 6 bolt into a 2g before I make my decision? Probably looking for price > quality. I just want to get it up and going.

You should be fairly close to Buschur(Wakeman).... If you dont want to go to them, I Highly recommend Pure Tuning (Toledo) but would be a bit of a drive.
