I first bought his car knowing it had problems. When i got it i knew it had blew out the head gasket but didnt know it had piston no 2 or 3 melted. It had started even with the melted piston but ran like crap and quite frankly it died after a few seconds. After finding out the grim news i had my engine rebuilt at a local machine shop in hopes of getting the car running.

After my cousin and I dropped the motor in checked and rechecked all of the plugs and wires we decided to start it up. It had been sitting close to a year because of winter and me not having a place to work on it. It took a few tries but it finally started and ran like complete crap. This was expected because of leaks and what not but the weird thing was it woudln't idle at a constant speed, it would vary greatly then it died. We didn't know what was going on so we rechecked everything and started it again. This time it took it a minute to start but when it started it revved up to 4 grand and then died out. We checked the spark and it only sparked in cylinders 1 and 4.

So i replaced the coil pack and transistor pack from a running dsm in hopes that it was that simple. It wasn't. It did the same thing. I replaced the computer and i think now it is sparking in all 4 cylinders (its been a long day so i may be wrong). I will recheck tomorrow morning. But it still does the same thing, it revs up to 4 grand and dies. I replaced the CAS with another CAS from a running car and it didn't help either. The fuel pump is kicking on and it has pressure throughout the system. Its a 190 if that helps. I took of the hose that connects to the fuel rail to see if the gas was pressurized through there (it was) and it came out. It looked a little dirty, probably because it was sitting for so long. Could the fuel filter be limiting the fuel thats getting to the engine?

Im going to replace it tomorrow as well. And i do have all the spark plugs gapped properly, i checked again. I do have the maft on there as well however i have it setup for 450's like i should. I just can't figure out why it is revving up to 4 grand and dying out. I even tried tightening and looseing the idle screw to make it easier for her to run but it did the same thing. I will let you know how it goes after tomorrow morining, i will be able to check the spark since my cousin will be helping, but any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post i just wanted to be thorough so please help!!

edit: And i have checked and rechecked the timing, also none of my fuses are blown when i replaced the cas i put it in at tdc and i did check out this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217951

I checked my pcv valve and everything looked ok. I took it off and blew threw it and turned it around and couldn't blow back into it so i think that is ok. All four cylinders are firing and when i hooked up the logger no engine codes came up.

When the car is running (while im giving it gas) it will take a few seconds for the car to have any kind of throttle response. So could this be a symptom of a clogged fuel filter?

I didn't check the vaccuum yet, but after messing with the fuel pump i found out it wasn't that. I thought since i had the maf-t and maf on there instead of stock mas air i would unplug it and try to start it. When i did this the car started right and idled very rough idle but it didn't die out. I plugged the gm sensor back in and it died instantly. So I either have a bad gm maf or i have a bad translator. Isn't there a way to check to see if the translator or the maf is bad?
