I know the previous owner (an old friend of mine who's now in the Army in Italy) had rebuilt the transmission. He had also changed the clutch (for a stage 5) and cv axles. I think he didn't fill the transmission enough or something. I get a quick grind pretty much every time I shift gears, but mostly only when I first take off in the morning and it's still cold.

How can I check the gear oil level and fill it if needed? Thanks.

Pop the hood, look down at the tranny. There will be a large bung, 14mm I think. Take that out. Fluid level needs to be flush with the bottom of the hole. So not pouring out but about to. You should be able to stick in your pinky finger and get it wet. You should be running GM syncromesh for lube. Its expensive from the dealer but I tried everything and thought Id need a rebuild till I put that in now it shifts like a dream.

i would suggest you change the fluid to take a step against damage. get the car hot and then drain the fluid. fill it with something like BG Synchro Shift II, Synchromesh or equivalent.

the key is to drain it when it's hot. It will allow you to get more of the gunky crap that is in there out.

oh I totally trust the guy I got the car from, he's one of my best friends; however, when he last changed the clutch he was also in a big hurry, and didn't really drive the car after that, except a couple of times at a drag strip, so it's quite possible he didn't fill it properly on accident ;)

I second that. I have BG syncro shift II in my talon. It is much thicker than gm syncromesh. My car hasnt had a problem since.:talon:
