I believe that the EVO engine is mounted the opposite of the GSX with the trans on the driver side is this correct? if so is there a 6 speed trans for the gsx to get some more top end?

with a longer 5th gear tho my accel at highway speeds will be severly deminished, im trying to build a gsx that has the awesome awd off the line accel with the crushing top end of the gst

thought about it...ive already owned an sti and thats the type of performance im looking for out of my gsx...i think it would be cooler than just buying an evo plus those evo and sti owners would never see it coming

I don't know where people get this assumption that AWD cars are slow from a roll. It has nothing to do with the drivetrain. It is weight, make more power to compensate. If you have a GST that traps 110 and a GSX that traps 120 no matter what you do from a roll the GSX will be ahead. To make both cars trap the same speed will take slightly more power in the GSX to overcome the weight handicap.

Cliff's notes: make more power and stop crying about roll racing.

How often are youin fifth gear and looking for serious exceleration. It's a cruising gear. or, as you seem to be looking for, it's a high speed gear. Which yould give you more top end. Exactly what you asked for. If you got a 6 speed with a longer 6th you would have the same power and exceleration.

I think that you should be seriously thinking about modifying your car first, and getting rid of the stock T-2-small turbo. The transmission is not worth you spending money on it unless it breaks at this time in your vehicle's state of modification.

I would look at doing "free mods" first, then an upgraded BOV, a fuel pump upgrade, fuel controller, wideband O2 sensor, fuel injectors, intake, exhaust, intercooler pipes, FMIC, clutch/flywheel upgrade, port exhaust manifold, turbo upgrade, ARP head studs, Mitsu MLS gasket, upgraded cam shafts, port work on turbo and intake, 1G TB, 1G head swap with 1G or aftermarket intake manifold, motor mounts, etc.

THEN look into a 10% higher 5th gear from TRE.

The only thing that you should want this gear for is increased gas mileage. You better not think that you are going to need 5th gear at the track, and I know for a fact that you won't see the end of the stock 5th gear at redline in your near future unless you like police and jail.

With that being said, start with these other suggestions for modifications, along with removing unsprung weight from the vehicle. Ideas can include suspension upgrades (coilovers, aluminum upper control arms, tubular lower control arms, etc.), brake upgrades (lightweight rotors and calipers), wheel upgrades (light weight wheels like the Rota Sub Zeros, or Gram Lights, or Enkei RPF-1's, or Volk GT-V's), tire upgrades (Toyo Proxes T1R, Falken Azenis, etc). Lightweight panels, or weight removal are also beneficial for you to get your "crushing highway speeds" that you want (on the track of course ;-P).

If you think that this post doesn't relate to you yet, maybe you should do some more reading and research. Fast isn't cheap, and DSM's are known to break. Be ready to have extra cash sitting around for the clutch or transmission replacement.

And trust me, a GS-T doesn't have crushing top end. Go to the track and see who gets to the finish line first -- AWD or FWD (cars with equivelant mods and same driver, same conditions, etc.)

There was a guy with a 3rd gen eclipse that put evo motor and drivetrain into it. I was actually in love, ### no one would ever suspect a 3rd gen to be that mean.

Yes, I do know this car, and have seen it in person.

Adam from DevoTuning had a hand in the installation of the evo powerplant and drivetrain.

Not cheap. But it is probably cheaper than trying to stuff the evo setup into a 2G AWD due to the drivetrain orientation.
