Alright its been a looong time since ive posted...update.. everything is pretty much worked out with the 99 420a except for 2 things.... 1 being my TOB ive replaced it 4 times myself....it just keeps wanting to scream its way out of my tranny. I always use mitsu replacements and they arent working, im guessing i have a worn fork ... i dont know im about to replace it for the 5th time and the only thing different im gunna do is pre-grease it. If any one has any tricks let me know i would apreciate it. The other thing... motor either has a bad head gasket or rings are fried...it blows white smoke and eats oil like it is its job..(can smell oil burning anywhere over 3k or long drives). the smoke only occurs until i drive it a block or so then goes away. Im gunna do a compression test but if anyone can brake down this problem b4 that it would be awesome(its freezing out). Also im gunna start building a spare motor (capable of turbo) im thinking 2.2 stroker, any better ideas? thanks in advance for the input i appreciate it... Nate

I cant help you with your other problems...if you're on your 5th TOB then there is something wrong....but I can help you decide which motor to use. 2.2 is a waist of money. Get a 2.4 block out of a pt cruiser and use the srt-4 internals in it. Throw on your 420a head and be on your way. It's not that easy but its not rocket science either. These motors are making nearly 200whp N/A with cams. Turbocharged is a whole other story, LOL. Good luck with your motor, headgaskets are a pain in the ass. I actually prefer to pull the engine out of the car to do that kinda stuff. I can do it faster that way than leaving it in.

the motor is stock, i decided to check out the slowboy racing TOB but its under the 4g63 profile so my question is, are these TOB's the same? if not can anyone point me in the direction of a decent aftermarket? Mitsu just isnt working for me.. i bought a new fork and slave cylinder... so i hope mayb thatll straighten out the shortened life span on my TOB's... also i heard that if u drop a 2.4 block in u hafta change a mount and the pan interferes? my buddy has an srt-4 stage 3 with an electronic boost control and that thing flys so id love to go with something close to that setup... thanks again for all your help guys

Yeah your best bet is to use the dodge stratus oil pan and modify it to clear your crossmember. And you're right, the passenger side mount needs to be fabricated. And you have to swap injector plugs (#4 in the #1 position, as well as rotating the CAS 90*). The TOB's are not the same. You should use the factory TOB if possible. Like I said before, if you are going through them that quickly then there is something wrong. My guess is you have something adjusted improperly and the TOB is riding on the pressure plate causing premature failure.

today i checked my adjustment and to my amazement it was pre-engaging right on the floor. this would b the reason for the quick failure of the TOB. Im ordering a mitsu one after readjusting it today and see if that solves it. also ill look into the 2.4 a little more and sum up a parts list to see what i need, and what itll cost. Thanks for all you help guys!
