ok, i know alittle bit about DSMs but not alot. i have a 96 talon ESi. i want to get a turbo kit for it but the engine has 120K miles on it. can i still put the turbo kit on or would i have to rebult the top end and bottom end?

thanks for the help,
spider

Depends on the condition of the engine. I honeslty would suggest that if you really want to get a turbo car, buy a turbo car. Rebuilding the engine and then purchasing a turbo would be as expensive if not more so then just buying another car. then you could use the N/T car as a daily driver and keep the turbo one for fun on the weekends.

I personally thing that would be the wiser choice.

yeah i though about ideal also, its just hard to find a talon Tsi or eclipse gst/gsx that has not ran hard. all the ones i find have over 100k on the motor/trans

Or sell the non turbo car take the money and get a tsi or gsx. I know I could not aord two cars hell the turbo one will take alot of cash to keep on the road just in gas. Dont waste the money on rebuuilding the n/t then also getting a kit and then you got the install to pay also.

I agree. My first dsm was a 2gnt like yours. I loved that little sucker. The 420a is a very stout and capable engine. But it was destined to live in the shadows as soon as mitsu and chrysler put a 4g63T in the dsm's. The 4g63 will just take better to boost, because it was designed that way. Sure you can make the 420a run serious boost and be a lethal performer, but it's just not cost effective. Some of the younger kids will start using cheaper insurance as a good reason to boost the 420a, but in the end it still just doesn't add up. I pay about 120 bucks for insurance for both the galant vr4 and my 1g. Thats me and my wife on the policy including uninsured motorist. If you can afford to keep your 2gnt and buy a gst or something, that would be great. If not, sell your nt and buy a turbo model. I did and I don't regret it at all, and I don't know anyone who can honestly say they do. Here's waht I wrote last year in another thread to a member who was also undisive:

I know how much you might love your car, trust me I've been there.Well let me make my story short.I had to sell my 2gnt because of circumstances of life,I did quite a bit to it like:Intake, header, exhaust, underdrive pulley, port and polish intake manny, jeep throttle body conversion, sportlines on agx's,ractive strut bar with a hint of rice...Was it fast,no.Do i regret it no,i had a great time doing it and learned alot,BUT now i got my 1g tsi awd and wow,is all i can say,all these people telling you to sell your car, aren't being d^cks, there just telling you the truth.Get a turbo dsm,Your psyche, wallet, and body will thank you for it every time you press the gas pedal. You could always try nitrous but, even with bolt ons and nitrous, you'll still probably be a little bit slower than a stock turbo dsm.just my .02

On another note! Not to go against what any one else has said here - If you decide you do wanna boost the 420a, Get a compression check done FIRST I think turbo 420a's are cool and I would have loved to build one, but college is expensive (F#cK!).. Anyway - I think If you want to boost your 420a go for it, just make sure you know what's involved first and dont expect it to be cheap!

*Just offering a friendly alternative to "sell your car... get stock boost... not worth it"*

thanks everyone for the info, 1st things 1st, i got to save up some money be for i do anything. but i think i just might get a different car, it sucks because i love my ESi but its way to much work and money to do what i want to do to it. im looking into finding a 1g and 2g TSi
