I thought the same, but the hole is way too mis-shaped to look like normal.

Looks like you broke it. Was it making any noises? The second pic of the two lifters where one is on top of the cam lobe is the lobe on that camshaft not smooth like glass or is gouged /cut/chunks of metal missing, and any other cam lobes are messed up.

There is absolutely no noise whatsoever, only reason i pulled valve cover is to paint it and clean lifters because they were ticking. This i found by mistake... anyways, the lobes all have a glassy finish to them, none of them are in any way rough.
Any other ideas? I'm not losing compression either.... 185-183-185-188.(little high)

Could have been from bouncing off rev limit, stress or part fatigue, not installed correct. Did you check completely around each lobes. drain oil check for metal, did you do the comp test correct? What cylinder is that on in the 1st pic and that hole is not an oil hole it looks like it was caused by something breaking off and at 1k to 7 k went thru the head.

Also check to see if that is a peice off metal sitting in a puddle of oil.

Dropped the oil pan aswell and no metal whatsoever, oil did get dirty pretty quick i changed it about 600 miles ago. I'll inspect each lobe again while rotating the cams. I'm just trying to figure out where that hole leads.
O and as for where exactly the hole is located. It's between spark plugs 2 and 3. Wondering if/when i pour my oil, will it drain into this hole and just sit there, maybe it doesn't lead to oil pan? Grrr this is most no cool.
Any good guides on how to swap cylinder heads?

If you have a repair book or a hyanes repair book, a head, used/rebuild from another car. New timing belt and might as well do all the timing belt assembly. Check the tech section here.
Did you also check to see if that is a peice off metal sitting in a puddle of oil.
it looks almost like that peice is broke off and in sitting in their side ways.
Hopefully someone else chim,es in and say weither my post is accurate and if indeed that is the case.

It looks allmost as if a peice of that broke off and got weged in their or in the second pic where the black ring is with the bolt in the center looks like that broke their at the side and fell into the hole.

I'm pretty sure that holes normal. Look at the two far corners on the intake side of the head. See two more holes? I just checked out both my heads..
I don't know what's up with your valve though. Looks like it's time for a rebuild! :thumb:

Actually i do, but they look alot more uniformed(not so misformed) as this one....
What do you mean what's up w/ my valve?

I know mine looks oddshaped like that too. I don't think it matters, the shape really. It gets the job done, flows oil in a certain path it seems.

I'll try to look up some photos, but can you explain what you ment by what's wrong w/ my valve.

I think he might be referring to the tweaked rocker in the pic. Was the rocker on the right like that when you took the cover off??

Here's what mine looks like.
EDIT: Yeah I was ^^ haha, sorry I dont know, he could've done that, I'm lunching.

Nono, i was referring to the giant hole in the head, the rocker is like that because i took all my lifters out, sorry.
The first photo wasn't trying to show anything except how clean the valve look(from what i think)

Yeah yeah, I thought of that afterwards. But can you see the hole in my picture? the odd shape? I dont have the best digital, and it was hard to hold a flashlight, hold my engine up, and take a picture, so it's the best i got, haha.

Thank you for the info/photo black, really helped me calm down, ### like anyone I just saw a random hole in the engine, and was like freaking out.

Did you check on what i said in post #9?

Well i searched the entire thing for about 10 minutes finding no sign of metal bits/chunks whatsoever. But i can see what you're talking about.

The reason for the irregular shape is due to the casting from factory. Theres nothing to be concerned about, its just a port that leads the oil from the head straight throught the block and into the oil pan.
