HOW SHORT IS TOO SHORT? FMIC piping?

So I got a FMIC piping made by Nick @ BR. I sent him pics of how far the SMIC j-Pipe is off from the FMIC piping. It was about 2 inches off. He made one for me to Fit exactly to the fmic piping. I paid $120 including 2nd day air to have this thing on and my car running. It ends up that this thing is now 3-4inches off going towards the Driver's side. Yes, i am pissed, Yes I am upset. BUT, instead of maoinginad causing up a sitr, plus wasting more time. I am thinking of going to a local exhaust shop and haveing them fab up a LICP that is all one piece. It starts at the drivers side End tank, bends into the engine compartment then bends into the J-pipe. This shaving 4 inches off the meant to be length. The FMIC I am running is the XXL XS POWER (ebay) Bar and Plate design. I am assuming that some of cooling of the air does occur before it reaches the FMIC. I do know that about almost all of the air is getting cooled by the FMIC. My question is, If I make this thing shorter then what it is designed for (judging how the pipes should line up) am I interupting the cooling process?

if it's only short only 4 inches have you considered just a quick fix of adding a couple of couplers? I know that it isn't the permenant solution that you're looking for but it will get you on the road.

Oh, and the local exhaust shop will be crush bending pipes for you, do you really want the reduced flow/turbulance involved with that? I go mandrel bends all the way on everything myself since I weld it all up in the garage.

Both very good points.

If you can't get it to work, call Nick and tell him what's going on. I'm sure he'll do everything he can to take care of you.

oops, I meant to say a couple of couplers and a piece of exhaust pipe to match your diameter. I would expect anyone running a turbo car to have extra silicone couplers laying around. The worm drive clamps can be found at the hardware store. If you're short on silocone pick up some rubber hose while you're at the hardware store.

Few bucks and a hacksaw will be the easy fix for this issue.

Then this creates the problem I wanted to solve. The air from the J-pipe is not being pushed straight down into the LICP. Now, its a sharp curve, straight, sharpcurve, and into the bend of the LICP.

OK, so Where can I get mandral bent pipes? Or mention that to them.

Or

Bring them to an exhasut shop and have them cut the LICP Pipes and weld to fit?

What would Nick do? Clearly he just wants me money and he go it. Whast the sense of paying for shipping over and over again till I gt the right J-pipe? He just fed me some bullshit and I believed. Game him my hard earned money and he walked away leaving me behind.

I think you're misinterpreting here. I know the guys at Buschur personally and none of them have the mentality of taking someone's money and screwing them over. I would follow Luke's advice, call Nick or Jarrod, tell them the problem and ask that they waive the shipping costs since it's not the right part. Take pictures if you have to and e-mail them so they can see exactly what you're talking about. These are good guys and they'll make sure they get it right for you.

Yes, Nick and Jarrod are both very good guys and I can't see them just feeding you a line of crap to take your money. Call them up and let them know there is still a problem. I am sure Nick will do everything he can to make this right. I see that you have allready sent the pictures once, but it is worth another shot. Maybe you will have to send him something mocked up that would be shaped like the pipe. Just give it another try. :thumb:

I sent him pics, of the orignal J-Pipe meant to go with a SMIC mounted on the turbo, showing how much off it is with measurements. Um, any ideas in how else I should take pics to insure the correct J-Pipe build/ fitment?

You can use that picture again. Maybe take pictures of a few angles and include a measuring tape or ruler next to the pipe so he can visually see how far off it is. Then I would also take pictures with the custom piece to show how far off that is. He should be able to work with those pictures I would hope.

I guess the best thing to do is call Nick and ask what he would need to get this pipe right.

Talked to Nick, said he will reiburst for the purchase but not shipping. Says the J-pipe works with thier kit. I asked if that can fab me up a custom LICP, but he said to talk to Dave and it will almost a def. no.

Starting a new thread with further questions. Thanks guys.
