Hello again,

I just decided to spend some money and get into tuning my car. I recently purchased a SAFC, and have plans on getting a AEM Wideband, a boost gauge, as well as a logger (possibly an oil pressure gauge?). Anyhow, the person who I bought the SAFC from was giving me pointers on how to tune, when she noticed I had alot of play in the gas pedal. She told me that it could be robbing power out of my lower end, and causing me to take a longer time to boost. Is there any truth to this? Also, what could be causing so much play (about 1 1/2") in the gas pedal? Is there a need to fix it, or is it fine the way it is?

Thanks Again,
Steve

you could try and tighten your throttle cables. see if it tightens your gas pedal. as long as your throttle flap can open 100% when you press down your pedal all the way.
if it opens all the way i dont see you loosing power or decrease in performance. you would just be loosing that part of a second extra it takes to push the peadle that extra distance to engage.

I had to tighten my cables very slightly just to be able to open my throttle plate all the way.
to check this have the car off, take off your TB elbow and get a friend to press all the way on the pedal. you will see the plate open, then have them hold it and see if you can push it open any more. if you can then tighten your cable.

Is the play at the top or the pedal or the bottom? I have roughly that much play at the top of my gas pedal. The play is most like from the gas pedal sitting on a sort of pivot, it is not stuck in one position like the brake and clutch. I truely would not worry about it, I don't see how it could be robbing you of low end power, or boosting abilities.
