hello i am a nubie. Ijust installed a jdm in my 1g and it ran fine for the first thirty minutes, then it developed a small tap. After checking the oil pressure and coolant I started again and it shut down. I removed the timing belt cover and found that the cams were in sinc but the crank was way out. The timing belt was tight and the tensioner seems fine, so I put it back in time. It ran for two minutes then locked up. Any clues as to why it jumped time?????

If the engine shut off, chances are you bent some valves. Install a new belt and compression test it before you put the covers back on.

Did you inspect the belt closely for missing teeth? If the belt is good and it was tensioned right, I would replace the hydraulic tensioner. You might also want to compare this timing belt with the old one. I have seen an aftermarket belt with 1 extra tooth that caused something similar.
