stafford,
Ive got a really big POS 1991 corolla and its broken. Just trying to get some help with the diagnosis.

When I first got the car, there was a squealing when I applied any pressure to the clutch peddle. Figured it was the master cylinder, so i checked it out, and it was full of straight gunk.

I really thought there was something else going on when I pulled over one day and smelt a very nasty smell... smoke was coming out of the shift forks boot to the slave cylinder...

Replaced both master and slave, but car slams in gear now. Could this be caused by wrong instillation of the slave/master cylinder? Could I have bleed it wrong?

When pressure is supplied to the peddle, fluid squirts out... Pressure good?

well this isnt really a corolla forum, but ill give ya a hand anyway

i cant really tell how much you know, seems like a little...but when your shooting fluid out the slave are you holding the pedal to the floor and closing it, or are you just pumping it.

if your not closing it off you will have air in the line, this will give you a slight feel of a pedal, but when you need the actual fluid pressure to engage the clutch it will not do it fully...do a proper bleed, if that doesnt fix you...your more then likely out a tranny.

hehe thats what i was afraid of...

thanks for the hand too. I have an 97 turbo eclipse also, and everyone on these forums has helped me more than I can say.

Thank you everyone

fwd i bought it for a grand just to get me around for awhile while my eclipse was out.

it really lasted me awhile without any real problems. I really dont consider this to large of a problem too, just need a place to work on it.

its kinda fun having a pos that you can #### up and then try all over again. i just made the mistake of trying to do all this in the sun for like 7 hours. talk about ruining your "go get em" mood

I wont just yet... just need this bad boy for about another month, and then my baby will be out of the shop :D

finally getting my 264/272's installed and maybe, get her tuned hehe
