does anyone have any opinions or experience with the fidanza adj. cam gears? ill be running hks 272's if that makes any difference.
 
I have them with no problems except the bolts for the ajustments shake lose. Now that I put lock tite on no problems.

The adjustment bolts thread in from the back of the gear, when you loosen and tighten the nuts while making an adjustment the bolt can back out a small amount. Just be mindful of that and the gears work perfectly.
 
The Fidanza cam gears that I recently received would not properly fit the timing belt. :-\ The belt fit maybe a quarter of the way around before it started lifting off and no longer seating in the grooves. Seems like the teeth on my gears are a little too wide. ...yes, I did get the correct parts.

Can you gain that timing back with these gears, or over compensate or something

Knock affects ignition timing not valve timing. When you move the cam gears your are changing when the valve opens and closes.
