I have a 1998 Eclipse GS. It is also an automatic. Is the trans in a 2G GSX auto the same as the GS? Also, I know 99.9% of you will say I should do a tranny swap, but are there any positives to keeping an auto and drag racing it? Thanks alot

The 92 GSX transmission will not fit in your 98 GS. I personally have swaped a 97 GS from an Auto to manual and its not to bad IF YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED, but it also gets expensive.

Is the Auto good for anything ? Yes, If your will be turbo'ing this GS then the Auto will allow you to hold boost between shifts and you will also never miss a shift. GoodLuck.

N/T transmission and AWD transmission are a world of difference. Also if you ask any real drag racer they will tell you that automatic is the way to go. You never see 9 second muscle cars shifting or Gary White and those guys with high hp Supra's. With your automatic, if you were to get a shift kit from B&M or something like that. Your transmission will shift faster than anyone with a clutch ever could. There is a GST back home that had a shift kit in his car and it shifted so fast that even in an automatic he still lit the tires up in second gears and chirped 3rd. For full drag racing auto is the way to go. Manual is just funner to drive around town.

Don't forget about bracket racing too. If you just want to have some weekend fun and don't have huge goals, you can lightly mod your GS and still enjoy the sport. That auto will help keep you consistent too.

No, I dont have the European Eclipse. I'm just stationed in Germany for the military. Thanks everyone for the insight.
